Product Overview

The Uneek Clothing UC801 Hi Vis Safety Waistcoat is an essential component of professional safety equipment, engineered to provide high visibility in demanding work environments. As a lightweight, sleeveless garment, it is designed to be worn over existing workwear without adding bulk or restricting movement. This waistcoat adheres to stringent safety standards, including EN471 Class 2 and UKCA certification, ensuring that your team remains visible and compliant with current health and safety regulations.

Key Features

  • EN471 Class 2 Approval: This certification ensures the garment provides a high level of visibility, making it suitable for environments where workers are near traffic or in low-light conditions.
  • 2 Band & 2 Brace Reflective Strips: Featuring 50mm wide retro-reflective strips that wrap around the torso and over the shoulders, this configuration ensures visibility from all angles, including when bending or reaching.
  • GO/RT 3279 Issue 8 Compliance: Specifically for the orange variant, this standard makes the waistcoat suitable for use within the UK rail industry, where high-visibility requirements are strictly governed.
  • Velcro Fastening: The front closure allows for quick application and removal, which is particularly useful for rapid transitions between site areas or for safety release in snagging hazards.
  • Black Polyester Bound Edges: These reinforced edges provide a structured finish and prevent the lightweight fabric from fraying, extending the service life of the garment.

Design & Performance

Constructed from 100% polyester, the UC801 is a lightweight fabric garment that prioritises breathability and ease of wear. The material is specifically chosen for its ability to hold the vibrant orange pigment required for high-visibility compliance while remaining durable enough for daily site use. The retro-reflective strips are stitched directly onto the fabric, ensuring they remain secure even after repeated movement and professional use.

The garment is categorised under 2016/425 Category II and is CE certified, reflecting a well-engineered piece of personal protective equipment. The design focuses on the '2 Band & 2 Brace' system, which is the industry standard for ensuring the human form is recognisable even in poor weather or at distance.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

The UC801 is highly versatile for branding. For a superior, professional appearance, we recommend embroidery for company logos or staff names. Embroidery offers a textured, high-quality finish that withstands the rigours of manual labour. Alternatively, for larger designs or safety messages on the back of the waistcoat, print provides a bold and clear finish that remains highly legible.

All customisation is managed by our expert in-house team in Telford. With MyWorkwear’s heritage dating back to 1976, we have the technical expertise to ensure your branding is applied precisely without compromising the integrity or the visibility of the reflective strips.

Use Cases

This waistcoat is a staple for personnel in construction, logistics, and warehousing. Given its GO/RT 3279 compliance in orange, it is an essential requirement for contractors and staff working on or near the UK rail infrastructure. It is equally suited for event marshaling or any environment where identifying personnel quickly is a safety priority.

Practical Advice

When selecting your size, consider the layers you intend to wear beneath the waistcoat. If it is to be worn over heavy winter parkas or fleece-lined jackets, you may find that sizing up provides a more comfortable fit. Ensure the velcro is fully fastened during use to maintain the correct positioning of the reflective bands.

Caring for your product

To maintain the high-visibility performance and reflective properties of the UC801, it is important to follow the specified care guidelines. Proper maintenance ensures the garment continues to meet safety standards throughout its life cycle.

We recommend a domestic wash at 40°C. Exceeding this temperature can damage the polyester fibres and the adhesive properties of the reflective strips. It is critical to note that this garment is rated for a maximum of 25 washes. Beyond this point, the retro-reflective material may no longer meet the required luminosity standards for Class 2 compliance, and the garment should be inspected or replaced.

Avoid the use of bleach or harsh chemical detergents, as these will degrade the fluorescent orange pigment and reduce the garment's visibility. Similarly, avoid tumble drying or ironing, as high heat can melt the synthetic fibres and permanently distort the reflective banding.
