Hardwearing Mechanic's Workwear

Mechanics typically wear coveralls or work trousers with a polo shirt and jacket to protect them against the grease and grime that comes with working on vehicles. Whilst coveralls offer the ultimate protection against hazards, a polo shirt and work trousers can give off a more professional look, fantastic for mechanics who are customer facing.

A mechanic should dress in professional protective workwear, like coveralls or an embroidered polo shirt with functional work trousers. Choose garments that are not restrictive, but are still offering protection against the grease and grime in a workshop.

Long sleeves can be optional for mechanics, especially in the colder months to help keep them warm in the workshop. They also offer an extra layer of protection against hazardous chemicals or unwanted spill and stains. However, wearing short sleeves throughout the warmer months is a popular choice for mechanics, as keeping cool throughout the summer is essential to their overall comfort on the job.

While some garages may allow their mechanics to wear shorts at work, especially during the hotter months of the year. It is recommended that full length trousers are worn by mechanics, as they are safer, as they offer more protection against spills, sharp objects and heat.
