Product Overview
The Standard Coat is a versatile staple of professional workwear, specifically engineered for the demands of the food and catering industries. This medium-weight garment provides a clean, professional aesthetic while offering the functionality required for high-paced commercial environments. Its understated black finish ensures a sophisticated appearance that remains practical throughout the working day.
Key Features
- Concealed Stud Front: The hidden stud closure provides a streamlined finish and reduces the risk of snagging or contamination, which is critical in food preparation and service areas.
- Three-Pocket Configuration: Featuring two lower patch pockets and a single chest pocket, this coat offers ample storage for essential tools and personal items without compromising the garment's silhouette.
- Kingsmill Polycotton Fabric: This specialized fabric blend provides the ideal balance of breathability and durability, ensuring the wearer stays comfortable while the garment stands up to daily wear.
- Pre-Shrunk Material: The fabric is fully pre-shrunk to ensure that the fit remains consistent even after multiple industrial or domestic wash cycles.
Design & Performance
At the heart of this garment is the Kingsmill Polycotton fabric, a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. This specific composition is chosen for its high-performance characteristics, including superior dye retention, which prevents the black colour from fading prematurely. Unlike lighter alternatives, this fabric provides a sturdy, reliable feel that protects the wearer's clothing underneath while allowing for maximum movement.
The garment's performance is further enhanced by its construction, which focuses on longevity. The material is designed to resist the general wear and tear of catering environments, ensuring that the coat maintains its structure and professional look even after extensive use.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
This Standard Coat is perfectly suited for customisation, allowing businesses to reinforce their brand identity. For a sophisticated and permanent finish, we recommend embroidery for company logos or staff names. Embroidery adds a textured, high-quality look that withstands frequent laundering exceptionally well.
If you require larger, more vibrant graphics—perhaps for a promotional event or high-impact branding—printing is an excellent alternative. Our expert in-house team at our Telford facility, operating since 1976, ensures that every logo is applied with precision, maintaining the professional integrity of your workwear.
Use Cases
This coat is a primary choice for professionals across the hospitality and food sectors. It is particularly well-suited for chefs, bakers, and butchers who require a protective outer layer that meets hygiene standards. Additionally, it serves as a reliable uniform for laboratory staff or warehouse workers in the food supply chain who need a durable, easy-to-maintain garment.

Practical Advice
When selecting your size, please keep in mind that this coat is often worn as an outer layer over other clothing. If you prefer a more tailored fit and only plan to wear lightweight garments underneath, your standard size should suffice. However, if you intend to layer it over thicker knitwear or sweatshirts, you may wish to consider a more generous fit to ensure full range of motion.
Caring for your product
To ensure this garment continues to perform and look its best, it is important to follow a consistent care routine. Maintaining the fabric's integrity starts with the wash cycle; we recommend a maximum wash temperature of 60°C. Washing at this temperature effectively removes workplace stains while preserving the polycotton fibres.
You must avoid the use of bleach when cleaning this coat. Bleaching agents will break down the polyester-cotton blend and cause significant discolouration, particularly on this black fabric. For drying, a low-temperature tumble dry is acceptable, though drip line drying is preferred to minimize creasing and maintain the coat's sharp appearance.
When ironing, do not exceed a temperature of 150°C. Using a heat setting higher than this can damage the synthetic fibres within the Kingsmill fabric. Finally, do not dry clean this garment, as the harsh chemicals used in that process are unnecessary for this hard-wearing material and may affect the custom branding.
