Product Overview
The Merino Wool 1/4 Zip Baselayer Top is a sophisticated addition to any professional’s cold-weather wardrobe. Engineered with a substantial Merino wool content, this garment provides exceptional thermal insulation while maintaining a slim profile that fits comfortably beneath outer layers. Unlike standard synthetic alternatives, this top leverages the natural properties of wool to regulate body temperature across a variety of exertion levels, ensuring you remain warm during stationary tasks and comfortable when the physical pace intensifies.
Key Features
- High Merino Wool Content: The blend provides enhanced thermal protection, keeping you warm in harsh conditions without the bulk of traditional heavy knitwear.
- 1/4 Zip Fastening: This feature allows for immediate ventilation and temperature regulation, enabling you to dump excess heat quickly as your work rate increases.
- Moisture Wicking Properties: The fabric actively draws perspiration away from the skin, preventing the damp, chilled feeling often associated with cotton-based layers.
- Naturally Breathable: This ensures constant airflow through the fibres, maintaining a consistent microclimate next to your skin.
- Anti-Odour Characteristics: Merino wool is naturally resistant to bacteria, meaning the garment remains fresher for longer between washes, which is particularly useful for multi-day assignments.
Design & Performance
This baselayer is constructed from a balanced 50% Merino wool and 50% polyester blend. This specific composition is intentional; the wool provides the essential warmth and softness, while the polyester adds necessary durability and shape retention. It is a lightweight fabric that feels exceptionally soft against the skin, avoiding the irritation sometimes associated with coarser wools.
The performance of this top is centred on its ability to manage moisture and heat. Because it is a technical base layer, it sits close to the body to maximise its wicking potential. The 1/4 zip collar is designed to stand upright for neck protection or be folded down, providing versatility depending on the wind chill and your specific work environment.
Why No Customisation?
We do not offer customisation on this specific baselayer for several technical reasons. As a garment designed to be worn directly against the skin, any internal embroidery or heavy print can cause significant skin irritation and chafing during movement. Furthermore, piercing the fabric with embroidery needles or applying heat-sealed transfers can compromise the technical wicking and thermal properties of the Merino blend. To ensure you receive the full performance benefits of this technical garment, it is best kept in its original, unadulterated state.
Use Cases
This garment is ideal for professionals operating in the construction, utility, or logistics sectors where temperatures are unpredictable. It is equally suited for surveyors and engineers who move between site visits and office environments. Given its sleek appearance, it can be worn as a standalone top in milder conditions or as a foundational layer beneath a fleece or high-visibility jacket during the winter months.

Practical Advice
For the best performance, this baselayer should be worn as part of a three-layer system: this top against the skin for moisture management, an insulating mid-layer for heat retention, and a waterproof or windproof outer shell. Regarding fit, we recommend selecting your usual size; the fabric is designed to be form-fitting to ensure the thermal properties are effective.
Caring for your product
To maintain the performance and longevity of this Merino blend, it is vital to follow the specific care instructions provided. Failure to do so can lead to fibre degradation and loss of shape.
We recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 30°C using a normal process. Washing at higher temperatures can cause the wool fibres to shrink and lose their natural elasticity. Do not use bleach, as harsh chemicals will break down the natural protein structures of the wool, leading to holes and thinning of the fabric.
After washing, the garment should be line dried only. Do not tumble dry, as the mechanical action and intense heat can lead to significant shrinkage and static build-up. Ironing is not permitted; the polyester content ensures the garment remains relatively crease-free, and direct heat can melt the synthetic fibres. Finally, do not dry clean, as the solvents used in the process are too aggressive for this delicate wool blend.
