Product Overview
The Yoko Hi-vis superior open mesh button waistcoat is a sophisticated safety garment engineered for high-intensity environments where ventilation is as critical as visibility. Constructed from 100% recycled polyester, this waistcoat aligns environmental responsibility with professional-grade protection. It is certified to EN ISO 20471:2013+A1:2016 Class 2, ensuring high visibility in daylight and under headlights. For those operating within the UK rail sector, the orange variant also meets RIS-3279-TOM standards, making it an essential addition to your safety equipment.
What distinguishes this waistcoat from standard hi-vis vests is the integration of an open mesh body. This design allows for maximum airflow, preventing heat build-up while maintaining the structural integrity required for a demanding workday. The inclusion of a button closure serves as a safety feature, allowing for a quick release should the garment become snagged, which is a sensible upgrade from traditional zip or hook-and-loop fastenings.
Key Features
- 100% Recycled Polyester: Provides a durable and sustainable fabric choice without compromising on safety performance.
- Open Mesh Construction: The mesh sections facilitate significant breathability, keeping the wearer cool in warm conditions or high-activity roles.
- Safety Button Closure: The front button design ensures the garment can be removed quickly in hazardous situations, enhancing on-site safety.
- Comprehensive Storage: Features a reinforced ID chest pocket, dedicated pen and mobile phone pockets, and a keyring for efficient organization.
- Two-Way Access Pockets: Two large bottom pockets offer both top and side access, allowing for easier retrieval of tools or personal items.
- Extended Back Design: Provides additional coverage and visibility, ensuring the garment remains effective regardless of movement.
Design & Performance
The performance of this waistcoat is rooted in its lightweight fabric and thoughtful ergonomics. Unlike standard solid-knit vests that can trap heat, the open mesh around the middle section is specifically designed for thermal regulation. The fabric is sturdy enough to handle the weight of mobile devices and pens in the dedicated pockets, thanks to reinforced twin-stitched piping on the ID pocket and high-stress areas.
The fit is designed to be generous enough to wear over standard work clothing, with a wide size range stretching from Small to 6XL. The inclusion of an extended back ensures that even when bending or reaching, the high-visibility surface area remains compliant with safety regulations. The cut-away inner label also prevents irritation during long shifts, reflecting a focus on wearer comfort.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
This waistcoat features a large decoration area specifically intended for corporate branding. For a professional and permanent finish, embroidery is the preferred choice for chest logos and staff names, providing a textured, high-quality appearance that withstands regular wear. The embroidery process involves tightly stitched threads that maintain their colour and shape over time.
If you require large, bold branding on the back of the waistcoat, print is the more effective solution. Our printing techniques ensure that your company logo is clear and legible, even from a distance. All customisation is managed in-house by our expert team in Telford, drawing on decades of experience since our founding in 1976 to ensure your branding is executed with precision.
Use Cases
This waistcoat is ideally suited for construction sites, warehouse logistics, and traffic management where heat management is a concern. The orange variant is specifically required for rail workers under RIS-3279-TOM regulations. It is also an excellent choice for supervisors and site managers who need to carry multiple items like IDs, keys, and communication devices while remaining visible.

Practical Advice
When selecting your size, consider the layers you intend to wear beneath the waistcoat. If you frequently wear heavy jackets or jumpers, you may wish to choose a larger size to ensure a comfortable fit. The button closure is designed for ease of use even when wearing gloves, making it a practical choice for outdoor environments.
Caring for your product
To maintain the high-visibility properties and the integrity of the recycled polyester, we recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C. Exceeding this temperature can damage the retro-reflective tapes and the mesh structure, reducing the garment's lifespan.
Do not use bleach, as this will degrade the fluorescent dyes and significantly impact the safety rating of the waistcoat. For the same reason, the garment should not be dry cleaned or subjected to professional cleaning in perchloroethylene or hydrocarbons.
Avoid ironing this garment, as the heat from an iron can melt the polyester fibres and damage the mesh. Similarly, tumble drying should be avoided to prevent shrinkage. Please note that this waistcoat is rated for a maximum of 25 wash cycles; beyond this, the reflective properties may fall below the certified standards, and the garment should be replaced to ensure continued safety.
