Product Overview

The PW3 Hi-Vis Overhead Rain Jacket (3L) is a high-performance, technical garment engineered for those who require maximum protection from the elements without sacrificing mobility or safety. Constructed from Portwest Extreme 3-layer fabric, this jacket is specifically designed to provide a waterproof and windproof barrier while maintaining high levels of breathability. Certified to EN343 Class 4:4, it represents a superior standard in weather protection, ensuring the wearer remains dry and comfortable during long shifts in unpredictable conditions.

Key Features

  • Portwest Extreme 3-Layer Fabric: This advanced material features a PU membrane bonded between a stretch twill outer and a tricot inner, providing a complete shield against wind and rain while allowing internal moisture to escape.
  • EN343 Class 4:4 Certification: This ensures the highest level of waterproof performance and breathability, making it suitable for professional use in adverse weather.
  • Removable Helmet-Compatible Hood: Equipped with a 3-point adjustment system and a shaped peak, the hood provides a secure fit over safety headwear while maintaining clear peripheral vision.
  • Integrated Ventilation: Pocket panels are designed to facilitate airflow, reducing heat build-up and enhancing the breathable performance of the 3L fabric.
  • Extended Back Length: The design provides additional coverage when bending or reaching, ensuring protection from drafts and debris.
  • Adjustable Cuffs: These allow for a secure fit around gloves or wrists, preventing water ingress at the sleeves.

Design & Performance

The technical core of this garment is the Portwest Extreme stretch fabric. By utilizing a 100% polyester stretch twill bonded to a PU membrane and tricot lining, the jacket provides a lightweight and flexible feel that does not restrict movement. The 75D x 75D construction offers a resilient finish that stands up to the rigours of a busy site. For ease of use, the jacket includes a 2-way centre front zip and a long access zipper, making the overhead design practical for daily wear over existing work layers.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

To ensure your team presents a professional appearance, this jacket is fully compatible with both print and embroidery. Embroidery is an excellent choice for adding company logos or staff names, providing a durable and high-quality finish that withstands the demands of outdoor work. For larger, more prominent branding, our high-definition printing process ensures your logo remains sharp and visible. Our experienced in-house team in Telford, established in 1976, manages the entire process to ensure your branding meets our exacting standards.

Use Cases

This jacket is an essential well-engineered garment for professionals in construction, civil engineering, and roadside assistance where hi-vis orange and black contrast styling is required. Its breathable properties also make it ideal for site managers and surveyors who require a garment that can transition from active site inspections to more static roles without causing overheating.

Practical Advice

This jacket is designed as a technical outer shell. For optimum performance, we recommend wearing a moisture-wicking base layer underneath to help the breathable membrane move perspiration away from the body. The overhead design is best fitted by utilizing the long access zipper to ensure it slides easily over mid-layers.

Caring for your product

To maintain the technical integrity and the high-visibility certification of this jacket, it is important to follow specific laundering instructions. We recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C using a mild process. This ensures that dirt is removed without degrading the waterproof PU membrane or the reflective properties of the fabric.

Do not use bleach when cleaning this garment. Bleach is a harsh chemical that will break down the polyester fibres and diminish the fluorescent colour, which is vital for safety compliance. Similarly, do not dry clean this jacket, as the solvents used in that process can damage the bonded layers of the 3L fabric.

This garment should not be tumble dried or ironed. High heat from these sources can melt the internal membrane and damage the reflective tape. Instead, we recommend a drip line dry. Following these care steps will help the jacket reach its maximum rated life of 50 washes while maintaining its protective qualities.
