Product Overview

The Chef's Somerset Jacket is an essential equipment choice for the professional kitchen, designed with a focus on longevity and comfort. This long-sleeved jacket is engineered to withstand the demanding conditions of a high-pressure catering environment while ensuring the wearer maintains a professional appearance. With its focus on superior workmanship and functional design, it serves as a reliable uniform for those who value both performance and presentation.

Key Features

  • The unisex fit provides a versatile solution for diverse teams, ensuring a cohesive and professional look across all staff members.
  • A reversible front is a practical design choice that allows the wearer to quickly conceal marks or spills during a shift, extending the clean appearance of the garment.
  • Cuff vents are integrated to improve air circulation and allow for greater freedom of movement, which is vital when working in high-temperature environments.
  • The long-sleeve design offers comprehensive coverage and protection, making it suitable for a variety of roles within the food industry.

Design & Performance

The Somerset Jacket is constructed from Kingsmill Polycotton, a well-engineered blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. This medium-weight fabric is specifically chosen for its high-performance characteristics, including superior dye retention which ensures the black colour remains deep and professional after repeated laundering. The material is fully pre-shrunk, meaning it will hold its shape and size, preventing the garment from becoming ill-fitting over time. This sturdy fabric is designed to endure the rigours of the kitchen while remaining comfortable against the skin throughout a long shift.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

This jacket is an ideal candidate for professional customisation. For a traditional and high-end finish, we recommend embroidery. It is perfectly suited for adding company logos or individual names, providing a durable result that can withstand frequent industrial washing. Alternatively, print is an excellent option for larger, bold designs that need to be clearly visible from a distance. Our expert in-house team at MyWorkwear, based in Telford, has been specialising in these techniques since 1976, ensuring every garment we customise meets our exacting standards.

Use Cases

This garment is specifically tailored for professionals within the catering and food industry. It is highly suitable for chefs, bakers, and butchers working in both commercial kitchens and customer-facing roles. Its durable construction makes it an excellent choice for anyone requiring a robust uniform that can handle the daily stresses of food preparation and service.

Practical Advice

When selecting your size, please keep in mind the unisex fit, which is designed to be accommodating for all. If you intend to wear a base layer or t-shirt beneath the jacket, consider whether you require additional room for ease of movement. The cuff vents are particularly useful if you find you need to roll your sleeves back for more intensive tasks, providing both cooling and flexibility.

Caring for your product

To maintain the performance and professional finish of your jacket, we recommend a machine wash at a maximum temperature of 60°C. This temperature is sufficient to remove stubborn kitchen grease and ensure the garment is hygienically clean without compromising the integrity of the polycotton fibres.

It is important that you do not use bleach on this jacket. Bleaching agents will cause the black dye to fade and will eventually weaken the fabric structure, leading to a loss of shape and a less professional appearance.

When drying, use a low tumble dry setting. High heat can lead to excessive wear on the fabric and may damage any custom embroidery or print you have applied to the garment.

For ironing, use a maximum temperature of 150°C. This ensures the jacket remains crisp and professional without scorching the material. If preferred, the garment can be professionally dry cleaned using standard tetrachloroethene processes for a thorough, structured finish.
