Product Overview
The Scruffs Worker padded checked shirt (SH053) is a robust and thermally efficient garment designed for the modern tradesperson who requires both the traditional aesthetic of a checked shirt and the performance of technical outerwear. Engineered with a focus on cold-weather utility, this shirt bridges the gap between a standard mid-layer and a light jacket, providing substantial warmth without the restrictive bulk of a heavy coat.
Key Features
Fully Padded Lining: The internal padding is specifically designed to trap and retain body heat, making it an essential choice for outdoor work in dropping temperatures.
Four-Pocket Storage: Equipped with two secure chest pockets for essential items and two hand pockets for warmth or utility, ensuring your tools and personal items are always within reach.
Popper Fastening: The use of poppers rather than traditional buttons allows for quick and easy adjustment, even when wearing work gloves or with cold hands.
High-Performance Fleece: The exterior is crafted from a durable fleece that offers excellent resistance to daily wear and tear while remaining soft to the touch.
Design & Performance
Constructed from 100% polyester fleece, this shirt is both durable and quick-drying, a necessity for the unpredictable British weather. The fabric is a substantial medium-weight, providing a reliable barrier against the wind while remaining breathable enough to prevent overheating during manual tasks. The padded interior adds a layer of insulation that ensures consistent thermal performance in harsh conditions.
Furthermore, this garment is Sedex certified, confirming that it has been produced under ethical and responsible manufacturing conditions, giving you confidence in the integrity of your professional wardrobe.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
At MyWorkwear, we understand that your uniform is a direct reflection of your business standards. This padded shirt is highly compatible with both embroidery and print customisation, which are managed by our expert team in Telford, Shropshire.
For a sophisticated and long-lasting professional appearance, we recommend embroidery for your company logo or staff names. The dense fleece and internal padding provide a stable base for high-quality stitching. Alternatively, should you require large, high-impact branding across the back, our modern printing techniques provide a bold finish that remains sharp over time. Since 1976, we have been perfecting these processes to ensure your brand is represented with precision.
Use Cases
This shirt is perfectly suited for tradespeople such as carpenters, landscapers, and builders who spend significant time outdoors and require a garment that moves with them. It is equally effective for warehouse managers or surveyors who frequently move between heated offices and cold environments, providing a professional appearance that does not compromise on warmth.

Practical Advice
The SH053 is designed with a standard fit to allow for layering. For the best thermal performance, we suggest wearing this over a moisture-wicking base layer or a simple t-shirt. When selecting your size, please note the chest measurements: Small (35/37"), Medium (37/39"), Large (39/41"), XL (41/43"), and 2XL (45/47"). If you intend to wear heavy layers underneath, you may wish to consider the larger end of your size range.
Caring for your product
Maintaining your workwear correctly is essential to preserve both its thermal properties and the integrity of your custom branding. We recommend a machine wash at a maximum of 30°C. Using higher temperatures can degrade the polyester fibres and may lead to premature fading of the checked pattern or damage to the internal insulation.
Avoid the use of bleach at all costs, as this will destroy the fabric's colour and weaken the synthetic fibres, leading to reduced durability and a shorter garment lifespan. This garment should not be dry cleaned, as the chemicals involved are too harsh for the fleece and padding construction.
For drying, use a low-heat tumble dry setting. Excessive heat in a dryer can cause the fleece to pill or shrink, affecting the fit. Finally, do not iron this shirt. The 100% polyester composition is naturally crease-resistant, and direct contact with a hot iron will melt the fibres, causing permanent damage to the garment surface and any applied print designs.
