Product Overview
The Scruffs Trade Flex holster shorts are engineered for the modern tradesperson who requires agility without compromising on storage or structural integrity. These shorts bridge the gap between heavy-duty workwear and performance-led gear, utilising a lightweight ripstop fabric that remains resilient under pressure while allowing for greater airflow during demanding shifts in warmer climates.
Key Features
Lightweight ripstop fabric: This specialised weave prevents small tears from spreading, ensuring the garment survives the rigours of a busy site.
Flexible fit with stretch panels: Integrated flexible sections provide an increased range of movement, preventing the fabric from pulling or restrictive binding when bending or crouching.
Canvas pockets and triple-stitched seams: Reinforcing high-stress areas with triple stitching significantly reduces the risk of seam failure, while canvas pockets provide a sturdy home for sharp tools and fixings.
Dedicated storage: Includes a mobile phone pocket and cargo pocket, ensuring essential devices and hardware are securely tucked away but remain easily accessible.
Tool loops and D-ring: Offers dedicated points for hanging equipment, keeping your hands free and your essential gear within reach.
Design & Performance
Constructed from a robust 65% polyester and 35% cotton ripstop blend, these shorts are designed for long-term performance. The ripstop construction is particularly beneficial for those working around sharp edges or machinery, as the grid-like pattern of the fabric acts as a barrier against further damage should a snag occur. The inclusion of a genuine YKK zip fly ensures a reliable closure, which is one less thing to worry about during a long day.
The ergonomic design is further enhanced by the Trade Flex fit. By incorporating stretch panels into the design, Scruffs has addressed the common issue of restricted movement often found in traditional heavy-canvas work trousers and shorts. Furthermore, these shorts carry the amfori BSCI accreditation, reflecting a commitment to ethical and social responsibility throughout the manufacturing process.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
The Scruffs Trade Flex holster shorts are well-suited for both print and embroidery, allowing you to align your team's attire with your professional brand identity. For a sophisticated and enduring appearance, we recommend embroidery for company logos and names; the dense weave of the polyester-cotton blend provides a stable base for high-quality stitching that won't puck.
Alternatively, if you require larger, high-impact branding on the cargo pockets or rear, heat-transfer printing is an effective option. All customisation is managed by our expert in-house team in Telford, drawing on over four decades of experience since our founding in 1976, to ensure your branding is executed with precision and care.
Use Cases
These shorts are the ideal choice for electricians, carpenters, and site managers operating in high-temperature environments or during the summer months. The holster pockets make them particularly useful for installers who need quick access to screws and fixings without the added bulk of a full tool belt.

Practical Advice
The Trade Flex shorts are available in waist sizes ranging from 30" to 40". Given the inclusion of stretch panels, they offer a slightly more forgiving fit than standard non-stretch shorts. We recommend selecting your standard waist size to ensure the holster pockets sit correctly on the hips and do not shift when loaded with tools.
Caring for your product
To maintain the structural integrity and technical performance of these shorts, we recommend a domestic machine wash at 40°C. Regular washing at this temperature ensures that dirt and abrasive particles are removed without damaging the polyester-cotton fibres or the integrity of the triple-stitched seams.
When drying, a low-temperature tumble dry is advised to prevent excessive shrinkage of the cotton component. Should you need to iron the garment to maintain a professional appearance, use a medium setting to avoid damaging the synthetic fibres. Do not use bleach, as this will weaken the ripstop weave and cause premature degradation of both the fabric and any custom branding. For persistent trade-related stains, these shorts can be dry cleaned with any solvent except trichloroethylene.
