Product Overview

The PW3 Hi-Vis Rain Jacket (3L) is a sophisticated addition to the PW3 collection, engineered for professionals who require uncompromising protection against the elements. Constructed from Portwest Extreme stretch soft-touch 3-layer fabric, this jacket is not merely a waterproof layer but a high-performance shell that moves with the wearer. The 3-layer technology integrates the outer fabric, a breathable membrane, and a protective inner layer into one cohesive material, providing a substantial yet comfortable feel without the bulk of traditional linings.

Key Features

  • EN343 Class 4:4 Certification: This provides the highest level of waterproofness and breathability, ensuring you remain dry in torrential conditions while moisture vapour escapes during physical exertion.
  • Triple Storm Flap: A narrow, triple-layer configuration protects the front zip, preventing wind-driven rain from penetrating the fastening.
  • Removable Helmet-Compatible Hood: Features a shaped peak and a 3-point adjustment system, allowing for a secure fit over safety headwear without compromising visibility.
  • Harness Compatible Pockets: Strategically positioned to remain accessible even when wearing a fall-arrest harness, ensuring tools and essentials are always within reach.
  • Extended Back Length: Offers additional coverage when bending or reaching, providing extra protection against dirt and spray.

Design & Performance

Performance is at the heart of the T166. The use of 'Extreme' stretch fabric allows for a superior range of motion, which is often a limitation in heavy-duty rainwear. By utilizing a 3-layer (3L) construction, the jacket remains remarkably breathable; this is further enhanced by ventilation panels integrated into all pockets, facilitating airflow around the torso. The 2-way centre front zip offers versatility for sitting or climbing, while the adjustable cuffs ensure a weather-tight seal at the wrists. The Orange and Black colour scheme provides high visibility while masking dirt in high-wear areas.

Why No Customisation?

We do not offer customisation on this specific jacket to preserve its technical integrity. The 3-layer fabric relies on an intact waterproof membrane to achieve its EN343 Class 4:4 rating. Standard embroidery would involve piercing this membrane with thousands of needles, creating permanent leak points. Similarly, heat-applied transfers may not adhere correctly to the specialised soft-touch finish or could damage the membrane's breathability. To ensure you receive the full protection this garment was designed to provide, it is sold as-is.

Use Cases

This jacket is specifically designed for demanding environments such as construction sites, railway maintenance, and motorway works. It is particularly suited for operatives working at height or in positions requiring safety harnesses, thanks to its specialized pocket placement. Its high-visibility credentials make it essential for any low-light or high-traffic work zone where the weather is unpredictable.

Practical Advice

As a substantial 3-layer shell, this jacket is designed to be worn over standard work clothing. When selecting your size, consider the layers you typically wear underneath; if you frequently wear thick fleeces or sweatshirts, the 4XL sizing provides the necessary volume to ensure comfort without restricting movement. Ensure the hood is adjusted correctly using the three-point system to maintain peripheral vision.

Caring for your product

To maintain the high-performance waterproof membrane and the visibility of the fluorescent fabric, it is essential to follow the specific care instructions found on the internal garment label. Regular cleaning is actually beneficial for breathable fabrics, as it removes dirt and oils that can clog the membrane and impede breathability.

Failure to follow the manufacturer's washing instructions can lead to a degradation of the waterproof coating and may affect the jacket's certification. Avoid using fabric softeners, as these can coat the fibres and significantly reduce the fabric's ability to 'breathe' and wick away sweat. Always air dry the garment away from direct heat sources to prevent damage to the 3-layer bond.
