Product Overview
The Modaflame Knit FR Hat is a specialised piece of safety headwear engineered for professionals operating in environments where flame resistance and arc flash protection are non-negotiable. This medium-weight beanie is constructed from an inherent flame-resistant fabric, meaning the protective qualities are built into the fibres and will not wash out over time. Its double-layered design serves a dual purpose: providing essential thermal insulation in cold conditions and offering a critical barrier against heat and electrical hazards.
Key Features
Inherent Flame Resistance: The fabric blend provides permanent protection against flame spread, ensuring the garment does not support combustion even after multiple washes.
Arc Flash Protection: Certified to ASTM F1959/F1959M-12 with an ATPV of 9 cal/cm², this hat offers a significant layer of defence for those working near electrical hazards.
Double Layered Construction: The two-ply knit increases heat retention and provides a more substantial barrier against external elements.
Anti-Static Properties: The inclusion of carbon fibre in the lining helps dissipate static electricity, an essential feature for sensitive industrial environments.
Stretch Fit: The knitted structure allows for a comfortable, snug fit that accommodates various head sizes while maintaining its shape.
Design & Performance
Designed with functionality in mind, the Modaflame Knit FR Hat features a sophisticated blend of 60% modacrylic and 40% cotton in its outer shell. This combination results in a fabric that is exceptionally soft to the touch while remaining highly durable. The modacrylic component provides the flame resistance, while the high cotton content ensures breathability and moisture management, preventing overheating during physical exertion.
The lining further enhances performance with a 1% carbon fibre addition. This technical inclusion is vital for managing static build-up. Because the hat is a medium-weight knit, it offers a balanced profile—substantial enough to feel secure and warm, yet sleek enough to be worn comfortably beneath a safety helmet without causing pressure points or bulkiness.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
To ensure your team maintains a professional appearance while staying safe, this hat is suitable for both print and embroidery. For a premium, long-lasting finish, we recommend embroidery for company logos or staff names. The dense knit of the Modaflame fabric provides an excellent foundation for high-quality stitching, ensuring your branding remains sharp and professional throughout the life of the garment.
While large-scale printing is possible for bold identification, embroidery is often the preferred choice for headwear due to its resilience during frequent handling. Every customisation project is handled by our expert in-house team in Telford, drawing on our heritage in workwear manufacturing that dates back to 1976.
Use Cases
This flame-resistant beanie is an essential accessory for electricians, utility workers, and engineers who face potential arc flash exposure. It is equally well-suited for site workers in the petrochemical and construction industries who require thermal protection that meets stringent fire safety standards. Its ability to fit under a hard hat makes it a versatile choice for hazardous outdoor worksites.

Practical Advice
When selecting headwear for use under a helmet, ensure the hat is pulled down fully to avoid creating gaps that could compromise the fit of your primary head protection. If you are working in exceptionally cold conditions, this beanie layers perfectly with flame-resistant hoods or high-collar jackets to ensure no skin is left exposed to the elements or potential thermal hazards.
Caring for your product
To maintain the structural integrity and protective qualities of your Modaflame Knit FR Hat, we recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C. Using a normal process ensures that dirt and contaminants are removed without placing undue stress on the technical fibres.
Bleaching agents must never be used on this garment. Chlorine and other bleaches can chemically alter the modacrylic fibres, potentially compromising the flame-resistant properties and weakening the fabric structure.
For drying, we advise line drying only. You should avoid tumble drying, as the high heat and mechanical action can cause the knitted fabric to shrink and lose its shape over time. If the hat requires ironing, use a medium setting not exceeding 150°C. Professional dry cleaning should be avoided to prevent exposure to harsh solvents that might interfere with the fabric's safety performance.
