Product Overview
The Modaflame Knit FR Balaclava Hood is a specialised technical garment designed for professionals who require reliable protection against thermal hazards without sacrificing personal comfort. Unlike treated fabrics that can lose their effectiveness over time, this balaclava is inherently flame resistant, meaning the protective properties are built into the very fibres of the material. This ensures that the safety performance remains consistent throughout the life of the product, providing peace of mind for those working in volatile environments.
Key Features
- Inherent Flame Resistance: The protection is permanent and will not wash out, ensuring long-term safety for the wearer.
- Anti-Static Properties: Integrated carbon fibres prevent the build-up of static electricity, which is critical in environments where sparks could lead to catastrophic results.
- Electric Arc Protection: Specifically designed to protect against the thermal hazards of an electric arc, making it essential for electrical engineering and utility work.
- High Cotton Content: With nearly 40% cotton, the fabric is exceptionally soft against the skin and highly breathable for all-day wear.
- Enhanced Warmth: The substantial knit provides an additional layer of thermal insulation during colder months.
Design & Performance
Engineered from a substantial, medium-weight Modaflame Knit, this balaclava balances technical safety with ergonomic design. The fabric composition of 60% Modacrylic, 39% Cotton, and 1% Carbon Fibre creates a garment that is both durable and flexible. The inclusion of cotton ensures that even during high-intensity tasks, moisture is managed effectively, reducing the risk of skin irritation. The carbon fibre component is meticulously woven into the knit to provide a continuous discharge of static, meeting the rigorous demands of multi-norm safety standards.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
While safety is the primary concern, maintaining a professional corporate identity remains important. This balaclava can be customised by our expert team in Telford. We recommend embroidery for adding company logos or staff names; it provides a professional, high-quality finish that stands up well to frequent washing. For larger, more distinctive branding, print options are also available. Having been in the industry since 1976, our in-house customisation team ensures that any branding applied does not compromise the structural integrity of the garment.
Use Cases
This balaclava is ideally suited for electricians, power plant technicians, and workers in the petrochemical industry. It is also an excellent choice for any outdoor tradesperson requiring extra warmth combined with flame-resistant and anti-static protection, particularly when working near combustible materials or sensitive electronic equipment.

Practical Advice
The sleek, knitted design of this balaclava allows it to be worn comfortably under a safety helmet or hard hat without causing pressure points. For those working in extreme cold, it pairs effectively with other flame-resistant base layers to create a comprehensive thermal and protective barrier.
Caring for your product
To maintain the high-performance standards of this technical garment, it is vital to follow the care instructions precisely. Failure to do so may degrade the fibres and reduce the garment's protective lifespan.
We recommend a normal wash process at a maximum temperature of 40°C. This temperature is sufficient to remove workplace grime without putting undue stress on the modacrylic and cotton blend.
You must not use bleach when cleaning this product. Bleaching agents will chemically damage the flame-resistant fibres and compromise the anti-static carbon filaments, rendering the garment unsafe for high-risk environments.
Do not tumble dry this balaclava. High heat from a dryer can lead to significant shrinkage and may affect the elasticity of the knit. Instead, allow the garment to air dry naturally to retain its shape and fit.
If ironing is required, use a low heat setting not exceeding 110°C. Excessive heat from an iron can damage the synthetic components of the Modaflame fabric. Finally, do not dry clean this item, as the chemicals used in the process can interfere with the inherent safety properties of the material.
