Product Overview

The Hi-Vis Polycotton Service Trousers are a cornerstone of reliable safety apparel, engineered for professionals who require high visibility without sacrificing the comfort of traditional workwear. These trousers are designed with a classic silhouette and constructed from a substantial Kingsmill polycotton fabric, ensuring they stand up to the rigours of daily use on-site. Certified to EN ISO 20471 Class 2 and meeting the stringent RIS-3279-TOM rail industry specification, they provide the necessary safety compliance for high-risk environments, particularly within the UK rail network.

Key Features

  • HiVisTex Reflective Tape: Features two-band reflective tape located above the knee to significantly enhance wearer visibility in low-light conditions, ensuring you are seen by vehicle operators and colleagues.
  • High-Performance Fabric: Utilises Kingsmill Polycotton, a blend that offers the hard-wearing properties of polyester with the natural comfort of cotton for all-day wearability.
  • Safety Certification: Fully compliant with EN ISO 20471 Class 2 and RIS-3279-TOM (orange only), making these trousers an essential requirement for rail and roadside professionals.
  • Functional Design: Traditionally styled to provide a professional appearance while maintaining the practicality required for manual labour and service roles.

Design & Performance

Performance is at the heart of the RT45 design. The Kingsmill fabric is composed of 80% polyester and 20% cotton. This specific ratio is chosen for its technical merits: the polyester provides exceptional colour retention and resistance to abrasion, while the cotton allows the skin to breathe, which is vital during physically demanding shifts. The medium-weight fabric offers a sturdy feel that protects the wearer while maintaining enough flexibility for ease of movement.

The orange hue is specifically formulated to meet rail safety standards, providing maximum contrast against most backgrounds. The inclusion of HiVisTex tape ensures that even in inclement weather or during night shifts, the wearer's position is clearly highlighted through light retro-reflection.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

At MyWorkwear, we understand that your uniform is a reflection of your brand. These service trousers are well-suited for both print and embroidery. Embroidery is the preferred choice for adding company logos or staff names, providing a durable and professional appearance that withstands frequent laundering. For larger, more vibrant branding, our heat-applied print processes offer a bold finish that remains sharp and visible.

Our expert team has been providing customisation services from our Telford-based facility since 1976. Every garment is handled in-house to ensure that your branding is applied with precision, maintaining the integrity of the high-visibility elements while enhancing your corporate identity.

Use Cases

Given the specific orange colourway and rail certification, these trousers are primarily intended for workers in the rail industry. However, their robust construction and Class 2 visibility make them equally suitable for construction workers, logistics personnel, and maintenance teams who work near moving traffic or in environments where being seen is a safety priority.

Why MyWorkwear

With a heritage stretching back to 1976, MyWorkwear has established itself as an authority in the UK workwear market. We combine decades of technical expertise with a commitment to quality. Operating from our state-of-the-art facility in Telford, we ensure that every product, including these service trousers, meets our exacting standards before it reaches your door.

Practical Advice

These trousers feature a traditional fit. When selecting your size, consider the layers you may need to tuck in, such as a base layer or polo shirt. For those working in colder environments, the medium-weight fabric provides a good foundation that can be easily paired with thermal leggings underneath without restricting movement.

Caring for your product

Maintaining the reflective properties and fabric strength of your hi-vis trousers is essential for continued safety. We recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C using a mild process. Washing at higher temperatures may degrade the adhesive on the reflective tape over time, reducing its effectiveness.

Do not use bleach when laundering this garment. Bleach will not only damage the vibrant orange pigment but will also compromise the integrity of the synthetic fibres and the reflective surface of the tape.

To avoid shrinkage and heat damage to the HiVisTex tape, these trousers should not be tumble dried. Instead, we advise drip line drying. This natural drying process helps the garment retain its shape and ensures the safety components remain intact.

If ironing is required, use a maximum soleplate temperature of 150°C. Avoid direct contact between the iron and the reflective tape to prevent melting or distortion. Additionally, do not dry clean this item, as the chemicals used can strip the specialized coatings from the fabric. Please note that this garment has a maximum limit of 50 washes; beyond this, the high-visibility properties may no longer meet the certified safety standards.
