Product Overview

The FR Leather Hood is a professional-grade protective garment engineered for individuals operating in high-heat and spark-heavy environments. Crafted from premium split cowhide leather, this hood provides essential coverage for the head and neck, shielding areas that are often left vulnerable during intensive welding or grinding operations. As part of our Flame Resistant Multi-Norm range, it offers a robust physical barrier against thermal hazards while maintaining the flexibility required for precision work.

Key Features

  • Premium split cowhide leather provides exceptional resistance to sparks and heat, ensuring the garment stands up to the rigours of industrial use.

  • The substantial thickness of the material offers a high level of physical protection against abrasion and molten splashes common in heavy-duty fabrication.

  • Certified to EN ISO 11611 Class 2 (A1), this hood meets strict international safety standards for protective clothing used in welding and allied processes.

  • The comprehensive design covers both the head and neck, preventing dangerous gaps between your headgear and jacket.

Design & Performance

This hood is manufactured from high-quality split cowhide leather, a material specifically selected for its natural flame-resistant properties and mechanical durability. The leather is substantial enough to handle the toughest welding jobs, yet it is designed to sit comfortably beneath other safety equipment. The professional Tan finish not only looks the part but is practical for workshop environments where dust and soot are prevalent. Performance is further confirmed by its Class 2 certification, making it suitable for hazardous welding techniques where higher levels of spatters and radiant heat are expected.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

To ensure your team presents a unified and professional appearance, this hood can be customised with your company branding. Embroidery is the superior choice for leather, providing a durable and high-quality finish for logos and staff names that will last as long as the garment itself. For larger, high-impact branding, specialist printing can also be utilised. All customisation is performed by our expert in-house team at our Telford facility, drawing on our heritage in the industry since 1976.

Use Cases

This protective hood is an essential item for professional welders, fabricators, and metalworkers. It is particularly effective in environments where overhead welding or grinding is required, protecting the wearer from falling debris. It is widely used across heavy industrial sectors, including shipyards, automotive manufacturing, and structural steel workshops.

Practical Advice

For the best level of protection, ensure the hood is properly adjusted to cover the neck area before donning your welding helmet or face shield. It is designed to be worn as part of a complete protective ensemble, including leather aprons and welding jackets. Always inspect the leather before use to ensure there are no deep gouges or damage that could compromise its thermal resistance.

Caring for your product

To maintain the structural integrity and protective performance of the split cowhide leather, it is vital to follow the specific care instructions provided. Most importantly, you must not wash this product. Introducing water to leather can cause the material to become brittle, shrink, or lose its inherent flame-resistant properties, which would significantly compromise your safety on the job.

If the hood becomes dusty or covered in dry debris, it should be cleaned using a soft brush. Should the leather become damp through sweat or environmental moisture, it must be allowed to dry naturally away from direct heat sources. Avoid the use of any chemical cleaners or bleaches, as these will break down the natural fibres of the leather and reduce its effectiveness as a safety barrier.
