Product Overview

The BizTex Microporous Shoe Cover is an essential component for maintaining hygiene and safety in controlled environments. Designed as a partial body protection (Type PB[6]), these overshoes provide a reliable barrier against both biological hazards and electrostatic discharge. Each box contains 200 pairs, ensuring your facility remains well-stocked for staff and visitors alike. The white, clean finish reflects the professional standards required in laboratories, cleanrooms, and medical settings.

Key Features

  • Certified Biological Protection: Conforming to EN14126 standards, these covers provide a critical barrier against infectious agents, protecting both the wearer and the integrity of the environment.
  • Anti-Static Properties: Meeting EN1149-1 requirements, the fabric prevents the buildup of static electricity, which is vital when working around sensitive electronic components or in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Elasticated Top: The integrated elastic finish ensures a secure, snug fit around the ankle, preventing the cover from slipping during movement and maintaining a proper seal against contaminants.
  • Microporous Barrier: The specialised fabric construction prevents liquid molecules from penetrating inwards while allowing vapour to escape, keeping the wearer comfortable during extended shifts.

Design & Performance

At the heart of these shoe covers is Portwest’s BizTex™ Micro fabric. This technical material comprises a polypropylene substrate laminated with a polyethylene film. This dual-layer approach offers the best of both worlds: the physical strength of polypropylene and the liquid-resistant properties of polyethylene. Despite being a lightweight fabric, it offers impressive resistance to tears and abrasions, ensuring the covers do not fail prematurely when walking on varied floor surfaces.

The performance is further enhanced by the fabric's breathability. Because it allows vapour molecules to permeate through the material from the inside out, it reduces heat buildup. This is a significant advantage in high-pressure environments where comfort directly impacts focus and performance.

Why No Customisation?

Due to the technical nature of these shoe covers and their classification as Type PB[6] personal protective equipment, we do not offer customisation or branding on this product. Adding embroidery or print would compromise the microporous membrane and the anti-static coating, effectively voiding the safety certifications and potentially allowing contaminants to pass through the fabric. For the safety of your team and the integrity of your workspace, these are supplied in their original, certified state.

Use Cases

These shoe covers are ideally suited for professionals working in pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical laboratories, and electronics assembly where static control is paramount. They are equally effective for tradespeople entering domestic properties who wish to protect the client's flooring while maintaining their own professional appearance and safety standards.

Practical Advice

The elasticated opening is designed to accommodate most standard work shoes and boots. When donning the covers, ensure the elastic sits securely above the heel of your shoe to prevent tripping. As these are disposable items, they should be replaced immediately if they become punctured or heavily soiled to maintain the required level of protection.

Caring for your product

Maintaining the protective qualities of the BizTex™ Micro fabric requires strict adherence to care guidelines, though, as a disposable item, the primary care instruction is to replace them after use.

You must not wash these shoe covers. Subjecting the microporous film to a domestic or industrial wash cycle will destroy the barrier properties and strip the anti-static coating, leaving the wearer unprotected against biological or electrostatic hazards.

Avoid any contact with heat sources, including irons or tumble dryers. The polyethylene film has a low melting point; applying heat will cause the material to fuse or warp, rendering the covers useless. Similarly, do not use bleach or dry clean the covers, as the chemical solvents will degrade the polypropylene substrate and compromise the structural integrity of the product.
