Product Overview
The B151 Base Pro Antibacterial Legging is a sophisticated foundation layer engineered for professionals operating in demanding environments. As part of the Portwest All Weather Protection range, this legging is designed to provide critical thermal regulation without the bulk associated with traditional base layers. By utilizing a high-performance fabric blend, it focuses on three core pillars of wearer comfort: temperature management, moisture transport, and hygiene maintenance.
Whether you are working in sub-zero temperatures or performing high-exertion tasks in variable conditions, this base layer acts as a second skin, ensuring you remain dry and focused on the job at hand. The technical construction ensures it fits seamlessly under standard work trousers or PPE, making it an essential component of a professional layering system.
Key Features
- Silver Ion Treatment: The fabric is treated with a specialized silver ion finish which actively inhibits the growth of bacteria, preventing the buildup of unpleasant odours even during prolonged wear.
- High-Efficiency Wicking: The polyester-rich composition is designed to pull moisture away from the skin rapidly, distributing it across the fabric surface for faster evaporation.
- Elastane Integration: A deliberate inclusion of elastane provides four-way stretch, ensuring the garment moves with the body and retains its shape over time.
- Thermal Protection: The fabric structure creates a fine layer of insulating air against the skin, providing enhanced warmth in cold conditions while remaining breathable.
Design & Performance
The performance of the B151 is rooted in its material composition of 93% wicking polyester and 7% elastane. This creates a lightweight fabric that is exceptionally durable and resilient to the rigours of industrial use. The polyester fibres are specifically shaped to facilitate moisture transport, ensuring that sweat does not sit against the skin, which can lead to rapid cooling and discomfort.
The addition of the Silver Ion treatment is a significant technical advantage for the modern tradesperson. By tackling odour at the source, the garment remains fresher for longer between washes. The fit is streamlined and ergonomic, designed to sit flush against the legs to prevent bunching or chafing when worn under heavier outer garments.
Why No Customisation?
We do not offer customisation, such as embroidery or heat-seal printing, on this specific item. As a base layer worn directly against the skin, any internal stitching or backing from embroidery would likely cause significant irritation or skin abrasion during movement. Furthermore, applying heat or puncturing the fabric would compromise the integrity of the Silver Ion treatment and the moisture-wicking properties that make this garment effective.
Use Cases
This legging is ideal for individuals working in construction, cold storage, outdoor maintenance, or any role that requires sustained physical effort in varying climates. It is particularly effective for those who transition between high-activity tasks and stationary periods, where maintaining a stable body temperature is crucial for safety and productivity.

Practical Advice
For maximum effectiveness, this legging should be worn as a close-fitting 'second skin'. If the garment is too loose, the moisture-wicking capabilities will be diminished as the fabric will not be in constant contact with the skin. When layering, we recommend pairing this with a breathable mid-layer and a weather-proof outer shell to create a complete climate-control system.
Caring for your product
To maintain the high-performance characteristics of this technical base layer, it is essential to follow the specific care instructions provided. A domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C using a mild process is recommended. Using overly aggressive cycles or high heat can degrade the elastane fibres, leading to a loss of elasticity and shape.
You must not use bleach on this garment, as it will destroy the Silver Ion treatment and weaken the synthetic fibres. Similarly, the garment should not be tumble dried or ironed; high heat will melt or warp the polyester and elastane blend, permanently damaging the fabric's wicking ability. For the same reasons, dry cleaning should be avoided to prevent chemical damage to the technical finishes.
