Product Overview

The Russell Europe 8740M ¼-zip outdoor fleece represents a refined approach to thermal workwear. Moving away from the traditional, often cumbersome fleece designs, this garment utilises a compact material that provides significant protection against wind and chill while maintaining a sleek, modern silhouette. Its panelled construction is engineered to offer an excellent fit, ensuring the wearer looks professional whether they are on a construction site or in a client-facing environment.

Key Features
  • Cadet collar: Designed to provide extra coverage and warmth for the neck, protecting you from sharp winds.
  • ¼ zip with cord pull: Allows for easy temperature regulation and is simple to operate even when wearing work gloves.
  • Side pockets with reversed zips: Features a mesh lining to reduce bulk, providing secure storage for tools or personal items without compromising the slim profile.
  • Bungee cord in hem: Enables the wearer to adjust the fit, sealing in heat and preventing drafts from entering at the waist.
  • Anti-pill finish: Ensures the fabric remains smooth and professional-looking after repeated use, preventing the bobbling often associated with lower-quality fleeces.

Design & Performance

The performance of this fleece lies in its dense, 100% polyester fabric. By using a more compact weave than traditional materials, Russell Europe has created a garment that is both incredibly warm and remarkably durable. The smooth surface of the fabric is not only pleasant to the touch but also offers a level of wind resistance that lighter fleeces cannot match. Its panelled construction isn't just for aesthetics; it provides a structural integrity that helps the garment retain its shape throughout the working day.

Customisation: Embroidery Only

This outdoor fleece is available for customisation through embroidery only. Due to the textured, high-pile nature of fleece fabric, traditional printing methods cannot provide a reliable or long-lasting bond. Embroidery, however, is the superior choice for this material, as the threads are woven directly into the fabric, creating a durable and premium finish. Our Telford-based embroidery team, established in 1976, uses state-of-the-art machinery to ensure your logo is rendered with precision, providing a professional branding solution that will last the life of the garment.

Use Cases

This fleece is an ideal choice for tradespeople, site supervisors, and logistics staff who require a versatile mid-layer. Its professional appearance also makes it suitable for corporate branding within the transport and utility sectors. It functions perfectly as a standalone outer layer in milder conditions or as a thermal layer beneath a waterproof jacket during the winter months.

Practical Advice

The 8740M is designed with a modern, tailored fit. If you intend to wear this fleece over several thick layers, you may find it beneficial to consult our sizing guide and potentially move up a size to ensure full range of movement. The cadet collar is particularly effective when layered under a high-visibility waistcoat or jacket, providing a comfortable barrier against zip-chafe.

Caring for your product

Maintaining the integrity of your fleece is straightforward but essential for preserving its appearance and thermal properties. Proper care ensures the anti-pill surface remains effective and your embroidery stays vibrant.

We recommend a domestic wash at 40°C. Washing at this temperature effectively removes dirt and sweat without damaging the polyester fibres or the structural integrity of the embroidery. Avoid the use of bleach, as this will degrade the fabric and cause discolouration to your custom logo.

This garment is suitable for tumble drying on a low setting. High heat should be avoided, as it can cause the synthetic fibres to shrink or become brittle. To keep the fleece looking its best, we advise against ironing; the compact nature of the fabric is naturally crease-resistant, and high heat from an iron could damage the fleece pile.
