Product Overview

The Modaflame Knit FR Balaclava is a precision-engineered safety accessory designed to provide essential protection in hazardous environments where flame resistance and anti-static properties are paramount. Constructed for use in cooler conditions, this balaclava effectively shields the head and neck while maintaining thermal comfort. The use of advanced Modaflame fabric ensures that the protective qualities are inherent to the material, rather than a temporary chemical coating, providing reliable performance throughout the lifespan of the garment.

Key Features

  • Inherent Flame Resistance: The blend of 60% modacrylic and 39% cotton provides permanent protection against heat and flames, ensuring your safety is never compromised by repeated laundering.
  • Anti-Static Properties: Integrated with 1% carbon fibre, the fabric actively dissipates static electricity, making it suitable for environments where electrostatic discharge is a risk.
  • Ribbed Knit Construction: The ribbed design allows the fabric to stretch and contour to the wearer's head, providing a snug and secure fit that stays in place during active movement.
  • High Cotton Content: With 39% cotton, the balaclava offers superior breathability and soft-touch comfort against the skin, reducing irritation during long shifts.

Design & Performance

Engineered from a specialised lightweight fabric, the Modaflame Knit Balaclava balances high-level protection with daily wearability. The modacrylic components provide the necessary flame-retardant barrier, while the cotton allows for moisture management and airflow. The addition of carbon fibre is a critical technical detail, providing the anti-static performance required in volatile industrial settings. The ribbed structure is not merely for comfort; it ensures that the garment maintains its shape and provides full coverage of the neck and head without being overly restrictive.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

While a balaclava is a technical safety item, it remains an excellent surface for corporate branding. We recommend embroidery for a professional finish, particularly for company logos or staff names, as the stitching is durable and maintains its appearance. For larger, high-visibility branding, our heat-applied print processes offer a bold finish that stands out. All customisation is handled by our expert in-house team in Telford, ensuring that the integrity of the garment is maintained while meeting your branding requirements.

Use Cases

This balaclava is specifically designed for professionals working in the petrochemical, utility, and manufacturing sectors where exposure to heat, flame, or static is a daily reality. It is an ideal solution for outdoor workers in cooler climates who require a protective layer that fits comfortably under safety helmets or other headgear.

Why MyWorkwear

Since 1976, MyWorkwear has been at the forefront of the UK workwear industry. Operating from our specialised facility in Telford, we combine decades of technical expertise with a commitment to quality. We understand the rigorous demands placed on flame-resistant clothing and ensure that every item we supply meets the high standards our customers expect.

Practical Advice

To ensure maximum protection, ensure the balaclava is tucked securely into the collar of your flame-resistant jacket. This prevents any gaps in coverage. Due to its snug ribbed fit, this item is designed to be worn as a base layer; if you are between sizes, the elasticity of the knit generally accommodates a wide range of head shapes comfortably.

Caring for your product

To maintain the protective qualities and structural integrity of this balaclava, it is important to follow the specified care routine. We recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C. Exceeding this temperature may lead to fabric degradation or shrinkage, which could compromise the fit and protection.

Do not use bleach when cleaning this garment. Bleaching agents can weaken the fibres and interfere with the chemical balance of the anti-static and flame-resistant properties. Similarly, dry cleaning should be avoided to prevent exposure to harsh industrial solvents.

For drying, we advise line drying only. Do not tumble dry this product, as the high heat and mechanical action of a dryer can damage the modacrylic fibres. If ironing is required, use a low setting not exceeding 110°C to avoid scorching the material.
