Product Overview
The HV Extreme Ear Defenders represent a technical advancement in integrated head protection. Specifically engineered to interface with Portwest Endurance and Height Endurance helmets, these low clip-on defenders provide a streamlined solution for environments where lower attenuation is required. Finished in a distinct grey and green palette, they are part of a colour-coded system designed to ensure safety managers and site supervisors can identify the protection level of their team at a glance.
Key Features
- Helmet Mounted Design: These defenders clip directly into the slots of compatible Portwest helmets, ensuring a stable and secure fit that moves with your head protection rather than against it.
- Balanced Attenuation: Designed for situations where extreme noise reduction isn't necessary, these offer protection against harmful noise while preventing 'over-protection,' allowing the wearer to remain aware of their immediate surroundings.
- Colour Coded Identification: The grey and green cups serve as a visual indicator for the specific attenuation level, simplifying safety compliance on busy sites.
- Premium Material Build: Utilising a combination of ABS, Nylon, and Polyoxymethylene, these defenders are built to withstand the rigours of industrial use without adding unnecessary bulk.
Design & Performance
Performance in hearing protection is as much about the materials as the seal. These ear defenders feature an ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) shell, known for its high impact resistance and structural strength. This is paired with Mono PU (Polyurethane) cushions that provide a comfortable, single-density seal against the head, ensuring that sound leakage is minimised even during long shifts.
Internally, high-quality foam provides the necessary sound absorption to meet EN 352-3 standards. Despite their robust construction, they remain a lightweight addition to your PPE setup, reducing neck strain when worn in conjunction with a safety helmet. The clip-on mechanism is engineered from Polyoxymethylene (POM), a high-performance engineering plastic that offers excellent dimensional stability and low friction for a smooth, reliable attachment.
Why No Customisation?
Hearing protection is a safety-critical piece of equipment, precision-engineered to meet specific acoustic standards. Applying custom prints or embroidery to the ear cups could potentially compromise the structural integrity of the ABS shell or interfere with the acoustic properties of the materials. To ensure your protection remains fully compliant with EN 352-3 standards and provides the intended SNR 22dB attenuation, we provide these items in their original, factory-tested condition.
Use Cases
These ear defenders are ideally suited for professionals in construction, plumbing, and electrical work where noise levels are elevated but communication and situational awareness remain vital. They are also frequently used by mechanics, welders, and those working in aviation or carpentry who require a helmet-integrated solution that won't interfere with other PPE.

Practical Advice
When fitting these defenders, ensure they are fully clicked into the helmet side slots. The ear cushions should completely enclose the ear without interfering with the arms of safety glasses. If you are wearing spectacles, look for thin-templed frames to maintain the best possible acoustic seal. Always check compatibility with your specific Portwest helmet model to ensure a secure fit.
Caring for your product
To maintain the performance and hygiene of your ear defenders, we recommend wiping the cushions and outer shells with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid the use of harsh chemicals or solvents, as these can degrade the plastic components and the PU cushions, leading to brittleness or a loss of seal integrity.
Regularly inspect the foam inserts and cushions for signs of wear, such as hardening or tears. If the cushions become compressed or damaged, they should be replaced to ensure the noise attenuation remains at the certified level. Store your helmet and defenders in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent UV degradation of the ABS material.
