Product Overview
The HV Extreme Ear Defenders represent a sophisticated solution for hearing protection in high-noise environments. As part of our premium colour-coded ear defender family, these helmet-mounted defenders provide high-performance attenuation without the use of metal components. Designed for seamless integration with Portwest Endurance and Height Endurance helmets, they offer a secure, stable fit that is essential for those working at height or in industrial settings where noise levels are consistently hazardous.
Customisation
Due to the safety-critical nature of hearing protection, we do not offer customisation options for this product. Maintaining the integrity of the acoustic seal and the structural stability of the plastic arms is paramount for your protection; therefore, the item is supplied exactly as manufactured to ensure it meets all safety standards.
Key Features
- Metal-Free Construction: By utilising plastic arms instead of traditional metal, these defenders are ideal for environments where non-conductive PPE is a safety requirement, such as electrical or high-voltage zones.
- High Attenuation Performance: Engineered to offer superior protection against harmful noise levels, providing the user with peace of mind in high-decibel surroundings.
- Colour-Coded Identification: The Grey and Orange cups are part of a colour-coded system that allows for the quick and easy identification of protection levels on a busy site.
- Helmet Compatibility: Specifically designed to clip directly onto the Portwest Endurance and Height Endurance ranges, creating a unified and balanced head protection system.
Design & Performance
Constructed from a robust blend of ABS, Polyoxymethylene, and Nylon, these defenders are built to withstand the rigours of daily industrial use. The lightweight design is achieved without sacrificing protection, ensuring that the wearer does not suffer from neck strain or discomfort during long shifts. The internal foam padding and Mono PU seals are selected for their acoustic dampening properties and their ability to remain comfortable against the skin, even in humid conditions. The plastic arms provide a reliable spring tension that maintains the necessary pressure for a complete seal around the ear.
Use Cases
These ear defenders are an essential choice for professionals in the construction, aviation, and electrical sectors. They are particularly well-suited for tree surgeons, welders, and mechanics who already utilise integrated head protection. Whether you are a carpenter in a noisy workshop or a plumber on a large-scale industrial site, these defenders offer the high-level protection required to prevent long-term hearing damage.

Practical Advice
When mounting these to your helmet, ensure they are clicked firmly into the side slots. For the best possible protection, ensure that hair is tucked away and that the ear cups sit flat against the side of the head. Even a small gap, perhaps caused by thick spectacle frames, can significantly reduce the level of noise attenuation. We recommend regular fit-testing to ensure your protection is optimised.
Caring for your product
Maintaining your hearing protection is vital for both hygiene and safety. We recommend wiping the ear cushions and the outer shells with a mild detergent and a damp cloth after each use to remove salt from perspiration and site dust. Failure to keep the cushions clean can lead to the material hardening, which will eventually break the acoustic seal and render the protection less effective.
Store your ear defenders in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Heat and UV exposure can cause the plastic components to become brittle over time. Regularly inspect the internal foam and the external seals for any signs of degradation or cracking; if any damage is found, the unit should be replaced immediately to ensure your hearing remains fully protected.
