Product Overview
The Chef's Drawstring Trousers are a precision-engineered garment designed for the demanding environment of a commercial kitchen. Manufactured from a high-performance Kingsmill Polycotton blend, these trousers offer a superior balance between breathability and durability. The defining technical feature is the Texpel finish, a specialized coating that encourages liquids to bead and roll off the surface, protecting the wearer from spillages and helping the fabric resist stains over long shifts.
Designed with a focus on ease of movement, these lightweight trousers are specifically weighted to prevent overheating in high-temperature environments like kitchens and bakeries. The elasticated waist and drawcord ensure a secure, adjustable fit, making them a practical choice for catering professionals who require comfort without compromising on a professional appearance.
Key Features
- Texpel Spill-Resistant Coating: This advanced finish allows liquids to roll off the fabric, significantly reducing the risk of permanent staining and keeping the garment looking cleaner for longer.
- Fully Elasticated Waistband: The integrated elastic ensures the trousers remain comfortable and secure throughout a full day of active movement in a busy kitchen.
- Adjustable Drawcord: Provides a secondary layer of security, allowing the wearer to customize the fit to their specific preference.
- Dual Side Pockets: Conveniently located storage for essential items, ensuring tools or personal effects are easily accessible.
- Kingsmill Polycotton Fabric: A robust 65% Polyester and 35% Cotton blend that offers the durability required for industrial laundering while remaining breathable.
Design & Performance
The technical construction of these trousers focuses on longevity in high-stress work environments. The Kingsmill fabric is specifically chosen for its ability to withstand the rigours of the food industry, where garments are subject to frequent, high-temperature washing. While the fabric is lightweight to ensure comfort in hot environments, it does not sacrifice strength. The Texpel finish is particularly effective in a catering context, acting as a barrier against water, oils, and other common kitchen liquids, which helps maintain the integrity of the fabric and the professional appearance of the staff.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
These trousers are suitable for both print and embroidery, allowing businesses to maintain a cohesive brand identity across their kitchen staff. For a more traditional and established professional look, we recommend embroidery for company logos or staff names on the upper thigh. Embroidery is exceptionally durable and handles the frequent washing required for catering workwear with ease.
Alternatively, printing is an excellent option for larger, bolder designs or promotional messaging. At MyWorkwear, our in-house team in Telford has been handling customisation since 1976, ensuring that every logo is applied with technical precision to meet our high standards.
Use Cases
These trousers are an essential component of a uniform for a variety of roles within the food and hospitality sectors. They are ideally suited for head chefs and sous chefs, but are equally practical for bakers, butchers, and general kitchen assistants. The lightweight nature of the fabric also makes them a popular choice for catering students and event staff who need to maintain a professional look while working in varied environments.

Practical Advice
Given the fully elasticated waist, these trousers are designed to be quite forgiving in terms of fit. If you find yourself between sizes, the drawcord allows for sufficient adjustment. Because the fabric is lightweight and designed for heat management, we recommend these for indoor use; for outdoor catering in colder months, thermal base layers may be considered.
Caring for your product
To maintain the technical performance of the Texpel finish and the vibrancy of any custom branding, we recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 60°C. Washing at this temperature ensures thorough hygiene in food-handling environments without prematurely degrading the polycotton fibres.
Bleaching should be avoided at all costs, as it will damage the Texpel coating and significantly weaken the fabric structure, leading to a loss of colour and durability.
For drying, use a low temperature setting if tumble drying. High heat can cause the polyester elements of the fabric to shrink or become brittle. When ironing, a maximum temperature of 150°C is advised to remove creases while protecting the fabric's protective finish.
Professional dry cleaning with tetrachloroethene is also a viable option for removing stubborn industrial grease that standard washing might miss, ensuring your workwear remains in peak condition.
