Product Overview

The PS90 Arc Flash Visor Class 1 is a specialised piece of head protection equipment designed to safeguard professionals against the significant risks associated with arc flash incidents. Classified as Class 1 for arc protection and Class 0 for visible light transmittance, this visor represents a vital layer of safety for those working in proximity to high-voltage equipment. It provides a robust barrier against thermal hazards while maintaining the optical clarity required for precision tasks.

Key Features

  • Arc Protection Class 1: Tested to GS-ET-29 standards, this visor provides a reliable barrier against the thermal energy released during an electrical fault, protecting the face from severe burns.
  • VLT Class 0 Visibility: Compliant with E DIN 58118, the visor offers maximum light transmittance, ensuring your workspace remains bright and clear even when the shield is lowered.
  • Improved Colour Recognition: As per EN 170 standards, the clear lens allows for accurate colour perception, which is critical when identifying phase-coded wiring or safety signage in complex environments.
  • Integrated Bracket for Slotted Caps: The face shield is equipped with a bracket designed specifically for slotted safety helmets, allowing for quick, secure, and stable attachment without the need for additional tools.

Design & Performance

Constructed primarily from high-grade polycarbonate, this visor is designed to withstand impact while remaining exceptionally clear. Polycarbonate is favoured for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, ensuring the shield is a lightweight addition to your head protection system rather than a burden during long shifts. The inclusion of a sturdy nylon bracket ensures the visor remains securely positioned, even when flipped up or down frequently.

The design focuses heavily on the wearer's performance. By providing high light transmittance and superior optical quality, the PS90 reduces eye strain and fatigue. This is particularly beneficial for professionals who must maintain focus during intricate electrical installations or inspections where precision is non-negotiable.

Why No Customisation?

The PS90 Arc Flash Visor is a safety-critical piece of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). We do not offer customisation, such as printing or engraving, on this item because any modification could compromise the structural integrity, optical clarity, and the specific arc flash rating of the material. Maintaining the visor exactly as manufactured ensures it meets the rigorous safety standards required to protect you in the event of an electrical incident.

Use Cases

This visor is an essential tool for electricians, utility engineers, and industrial maintenance teams who face potential arc hazards. It is particularly suited for individuals working on switchgear maintenance, cable jointing, or within industrial plant rooms. Its compatibility with standard construction hard hats also makes it a sensible choice for multi-disciplinary tradespeople working on large-scale infrastructure projects.

Practical Advice

For optimal safety, this visor is recommended for use on unvented, PPE category III helmets. It is specifically designed to be compatible with Portwest hard hats PS53 and PS54. Before each use, we suggest a quick inspection for any deep scratches or cracks that could impair visibility or compromise the shield's protective rating. Always ensure the bracket is fully seated in the helmet slots to prevent the shield from shifting during movement.

Caring for your product

To maintain the performance and clarity of your visor, it is essential to keep the surface free from debris and scratches. A clear view is not just a matter of convenience; it is a fundamental safety requirement when working with electrical hazards where every detail matters.

We recommend cleaning the polycarbonate shield with mild soap and warm water, followed by drying with a soft, non-abrasive microfibre cloth. Avoid the use of solvent-based cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can cause clouding or degradation of the polycarbonate material, which would render the visor unsafe for use. When the visor is not in use, it is best stored in a protective bag to shield it from environmental contaminants and physical damage.
