Product Overview
The Larkwood 1/2-zip lightweight fleece represents a modern approach to junior workwear and team apparel. Designed specifically for the younger demographic, ranging from infants to early primary school ages, this garment balances thermal efficiency with environmental responsibility. Constructed from 100% recycled polyester, it provides a sustainable solution for businesses and organisations looking to equip the next generation without compromising on quality or performance.
Key Features
Recycled Microfleece Construction: The use of 100% recycled polyester offers a responsible choice for the eco-conscious brand while providing a soft, thermal layer.
YKK 1/2-Zip Styling: Equipped with a high-quality YKK zip, ensuring smooth operation and durability for frequent dressing and undressing.
Stretch Binding Finish: The curved hem and collar are finished with stretch binding, which helps the garment retain its shape even after extensive wear and activity.
Flatlock Stitching: This technical stitching method reduces bulk and prevents chafing, ensuring the wearer remains comfortable throughout the day.
Tear-out Name Label: Located on the inside side seam, this feature allows for easy personalisation or rebranding without the irritation of a traditional neck tag.
Design & Performance
This fleece is engineered from a lightweight microfleece fabric that offers an impressive warmth-to-weight ratio. Unlike heavier alternatives that can feel restrictive for active children, this unlined garment provides cosy layering without the risk of overheating. The curved hem is not merely a stylistic choice; it offers better coverage and a more ergonomic fit for moving bodies.
The fabric's composition ensures it is both quick-drying and resilient. The flatlock seams are a critical design detail, providing structural integrity while maintaining a low profile against the skin. This attention to detail ensures that the garment performs reliably in nurseries, schools, or outdoor environments.
Customisation: Embroidery Only
Due to the textured nature of microfleece, this garment is specifically designated for embroidery only. The deep pile of fleece fabric does not provide a suitable surface for heat transfer or screen printing, which can peel or crack over time. Embroidery, however, allows our Telford-based team to stitch your logo directly into the fibres, creating a permanent, premium finish that moves with the fabric.
Our in-house embroidery department, established in 1976, uses high-quality threads that maintain their colour and tension. This ensures your branding looks professional and remains intact, even after the frequent washing that children's clothing inevitably undergoes.
Use Cases
This lightweight fleece is an excellent choice for nursery uniforms, forest school kits, or junior sports club branding. Its professional appearance also makes it suitable for family-run businesses where a cohesive brand image is required across all age groups. It serves perfectly as a mid-layer during colder months or as a standalone outer layer during transitional seasons.

Practical Advice
The sizing for this range is comprehensive, spanning from 0/6 months up to 5/6 years. To ensure the best fit, we recommend following the 'to fit' centimetre guides provided. As this is a lightweight fleece, it is designed to be worn over a base layer or polo shirt; if you intend to use it over thicker clothing, you may wish to consider the next size up for a more comfortable fit.
Caring for your product
To maintain the soft handle and thermal properties of the microfleece, it is essential to follow the correct laundering procedures. We recommend a domestic wash at 40°C using a synthetic cycle. Washing dark colours separately is vital to prevent dye migration, which can dull the appearance of lighter panels or your embroidered logo.
This garment should not be bleached, as harsh chemicals will break down the recycled polyester fibres and damage the embroidery thread. We strongly advise against tumble drying, as the high heat can cause the fleece to lose its shape or develop static. If ironing is required, use a cool setting on the reverse of the garment only to protect the pile of the fabric and the integrity of the embroidered design.
