Product Overview
The Fruit of the Loom Kids Classic Hooded Sweatshirt is a mainstay in youth workwear and event apparel for a very good reason. Engineered by one of the most established names in the industry, this hoodie balances the need for everyday comfort with the durability required for active children. It is constructed from a blend of 80% cotton and 20% polyester, providing a soft-touch finish that stands up to frequent laundering without losing its shape or appeal.
Key Features
- Double-Fabric Hood: The hood is constructed with two layers of fabric, offering superior warmth and a more substantial feel compared to single-layer alternatives.
- No Drawcord Design: To comply with European childrenswear safety legislation, this hoodie is designed without a drawcord, ensuring peace of mind for parents and organisers.
- Cotton/Lycra Ribbed Waist and Cuffs: The inclusion of Lycra in the ribbing ensures the garment maintains its shape at the openings, preventing the 'stretched-out' look that often plagues lesser-quality sweatshirts.
- Front Kangaroo Pocket: A classic feature that provides practical storage and a place for hands to rest, reinforced to handle the rigours of daily wear.
- Single Jersey Back Neck Tape: This internal taping covers the seam at the back of the neck, providing a smoother surface against the skin and preventing irritation during movement.
Design & Performance
This medium-weight sweatshirt is designed with a focus on both comfort and longevity. The 80/20 fabric composition is a deliberate choice; the high cotton content ensures breathability and a premium feel, while the polyester adds the necessary tensile strength and colour fastness required for uniforms. It is a well-engineered garment that feels substantial enough for outdoor activities but remains breathable for indoor wear.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
The smooth surface of the cotton-rich blend makes this sweatshirt an excellent canvas for both print and embroidery. Our in-house team at our Telford base, where we have been operating since 1976, uses professional-grade equipment to ensure your branding is applied with precision.
Embroidery is highly recommended for school crests or club logos, providing a sophisticated, long-lasting finish that can withstand the high-intensity lifestyle of a younger wearer. For larger, more vibrant designs such as tour groups or one-off events, our high-quality printing process ensures the artwork remains sharp and clear. Whether you require a single name or a full-back design, this garment handles customisation with ease.
Use Cases
This sweatshirt is ideally suited for school uniforms, junior sports clubs, and youth organisations. Its wide range of colours also makes it a popular choice for 'leavers' hoodies, school trips, and promotional events where brand identity is paramount.

Practical Advice
The sizing for this garment ranges from age 5/6 up to 14/15. We recommend reviewing the size guide carefully, as children's sizing can vary significantly. This hoodie works exceptionally well as a layering piece over a standard polo shirt or t-shirt for year-round utility.
Caring for your product
To maintain the structural integrity of the sweatshirt and the vibrancy of your custom branding, we recommend a machine wash at 40°C. Washing at this temperature effectively removes dirt while protecting the fibres from the premature breakdown associated with higher heat cycles.
Avoid the use of bleach, as this will degrade the polyester fibres and cause significant fading to both the garment and any printed or embroidered elements. If tumble drying, please use a low-heat setting to prevent the Lycra in the ribs from losing its elasticity and to minimise the risk of shrinkage.
When ironing, use a one-dot setting and avoid direct contact with any printed areas to prevent the transfer of heat-sensitive inks. This garment should not be dry cleaned, as the chemicals involved can damage the customisation and the fabric's soft-touch finish.
