Product Overview
The Modaflame Knit FR Full Zip Hooded Sweatshirt is an essential piece of personal protective equipment designed for environments where flame resistance is not just a preference, but a requirement. Unlike treated garments where protective properties can diminish over time, the FR81 features inherent flame resistance. This means the protective qualities are built into the very fibres of the fabric, ensuring that the level of safety remains consistent regardless of how many times the sweatshirt is laundered. This medium-weight garment provides a sophisticated balance between high-level protection and the everyday comfort expected of a premium hooded sweatshirt.
Key Features
- Inherent Flame Resistance: Because the fibres themselves are naturally flame resistant, the protection will never fade or wash out, providing long-term reliability for the wearer.
- Electric Arc Protection: This sweatshirt is engineered to offer protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc, making it a critical layer for those working near electrical installations.
- Functional Pouch Pockets: The front pouch pockets are designed for more than just storage; they provide essential hand-warming capabilities and ample space for tools or personal items without compromising the garment's safety integrity.
- Full Zip Design: The high-quality full-length zip allows for easy donning and doffing, as well as providing the ability to regulate body temperature in changing work environments.
- Integrated Hood: The hood offers additional protection against the elements and potential thermal risks to the head and neck area.
Design & Performance
The performance of the FR81 is rooted in its technical fabric composition. The Modaflame Knit is a sophisticated blend of 60% Modacrylic, 39% Cotton, and 1% Carbon Fibre. The Modacrylic provides the primary flame-resistant structure, while the high cotton content ensures the fabric remains breathable and soft against the skin, reducing the risk of heat stress during long shifts. The inclusion of carbon fibre provides essential anti-static properties, which is vital in volatile environments.
Construction-wise, this sweatshirt is built to withstand the rigours of industrial use. The knit fabric offers natural stretch for better mobility, while the reinforced seams ensure the garment maintains its shape and protective coverage even under physical strain. It is a substantial, hard-wearing garment that does not sacrifice wearer comfort for safety.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
At MyWorkwear, we understand that safety gear is also a representation of your brand. The Modaflame fabric is well-suited for both print and embroidery. Embroidery is the preferred choice for a professional appearance, ideal for company logos and staff names, providing a durable finish that matches the longevity of the garment. For larger, high-visibility branding, our technical print processes ensure your designs remain bold without compromising the flame-resistant properties of the material.
All customisation is managed by our expert in-house team in Telford. Having been established in 1976, we have decades of experience in ensuring that your branding is applied with precision and care, maintaining the technical integrity of your specialised workwear.
Use Cases
This hooded sweatshirt is specifically designed for professionals in the electrical, petrochemical, and utility sectors. It is an ideal choice for electricians, engineers, and site managers who require a versatile mid-layer that provides arc flash and flame protection. It is equally at home on a construction site as it is in a controlled industrial facility.

Practical Advice
The FR81 is designed as a regular fit garment, making it suitable for layering over flame-resistant base layers or under heavier protective jackets. We recommend selecting your standard size to ensure there is enough room for air circulation, which aids in thermal insulation. Ensure the zip is fully closed and the hood is utilised in high-risk areas to maximise the protective surface area.
Caring for your product
To maintain the high-performance standards of this flame-resistant garment, it is vital to follow the specific care instructions. Proper maintenance ensures the fabric's protective structure and your custom branding remain intact for the life of the product.
We recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C using a normal process. Washing at higher temperatures may cause unnecessary stress to the modacrylic fibres and could lead to garment shrinkage.
Under no circumstances should you use bleach on this garment. Bleaching agents can chemically damage the inherent flame-resistant fibres and significantly weaken the fabric's protective capabilities. Similarly, do not dry clean the sweatshirt, as the chemicals used in the process are not compatible with the Modaflame knit.
For drying, this garment should be line dried only. Do not tumble dry, as the intense heat of a dryer can damage the carbon fibres and affect the garment's fit. If ironing is required, use a low heat setting not exceeding 110°C to avoid damaging the synthetic components of the blend.
