Product Overview

The MIG Welders 320 Grain Leather Reinforced Gauntlet is a specialist piece of personal protective equipment designed specifically for the rigorous demands of professional welding environments. Constructed using high-grade materials, this gauntlet prioritises both protection and longevity. The foundation of the glove is premium grain leather, which is further reinforced with a split leather overlay to provide superior resistance against sparks and burns. It is a substantial, heavy-duty glove that does not compromise on the dexterity required for precise MIG welding tasks.

Key Features

  • Grain Leather Construction: The use of high-quality cow grain leather ensures a supple feel and high durability, allowing for a better grip on welding torches and tools.
  • Split Leather Reinforcement: An additional layer of split leather is overlayed in high-wear areas, significantly increasing burn resistance and extending the life of the gauntlet.
  • Fleece Lining: The internal fleece lining serves a dual purpose, providing a comfortable barrier against extreme heat while also offering insulation during colder working conditions.
  • Aramid Stitching: All seams are sewn with Aramid thread, which is inherently heat-resistant and prevents the stitching from failing when exposed to sparks or intense thermal energy.

Design & Performance

Engineered for performance, the A540 gauntlet utilises a strategic combination of cow grain and split leather. The grain leather provides the necessary flexibility for hand movement, while the split leather patches are positioned to take the brunt of thermal hazards. This dual-material approach ensures the gauntlet remains functional even under heavy use. The internal cotton and polyester fleece lining creates a cushioned environment for the hand, reducing fatigue during long shifts and protecting the skin from the high temperatures associated with welding arcs.

Why No Customisation?

We do not offer customisation, such as embroidery or heat transfer printing, on this product for safety reasons. This gauntlet is a critical piece of certified PPE; puncturing the leather with embroidery needles or applying high-heat transfers would compromise the integrity of the material and its ability to protect the wearer from burns and heat. For safety gear of this technical nature, the manufacturer’s original specification must be maintained without modification.

Use Cases

This gauntlet is specifically intended for MIG welding applications within industrial fabrication, automotive repair, and heavy engineering sectors. It is also suitable for general metalwork where there is a high risk of heat exposure or contact with abrasive surfaces. It is the preferred choice for professionals who require a higher grade of hand protection than standard rigger gloves can provide.

Practical Advice

When selecting welding gauntlets, ensure the fit is secure but allows for a full range of hand motion. A glove that is too tight can restrict blood flow and increase fatigue, while one that is too loose may hinder your control of the welding torch. These gauntlets are designed to be worn over the sleeves of your flame-retardant coveralls or welding jacket to ensure no skin is exposed to stray sparks.

Caring for your product

Maintaining your leather gauntlets is essential to ensure they continue to provide the required level of protection and remain comfortable to wear over time. Leather is a natural material that can be adversely affected by moisture and extreme chemicals.

Do not wash these gauntlets in a domestic or industrial washing machine. Submerging grain leather in water can cause it to become stiff and brittle once dry, which leads to cracking and a significant loss of manual dexterity. If the gloves become soiled, gently wipe the surface with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove debris.

Store your gauntlets in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight or heat sources when not in use. Prolonged exposure to heat when the gloves are not being worn can dry out the natural oils in the leather, causing it to lose its protective properties and eventually fail. If the gloves become wet through perspiration or environmental moisture, allow them to air dry naturally.
