Product Overview
The HA17 Hi-Vis Neck Shade is a specialized safety accessory designed for professionals who face the dual challenges of site safety and environmental exposure. Engineered to integrate seamlessly with standard safety helmets, this neck shade provides an effective barrier against the sun, reducing heat strain and protecting the neck area from UV exposure during long outdoor shifts. It is a practical solution for maintaining comfort without compromising on the use of essential head protection.
Key Features
- Integrated elastic band: Designed to provide a secure and snug fit over the crown of most safety helmets, ensuring the shade remains in position even in windy conditions.
- High-visibility orange: The vibrant colour ensures the wearer remains conspicuous in busy work environments, assisting with site safety compliance.
- Mesh construction: Uses an open-weave fabric to facilitate maximum breathability, preventing heat build-up around the neck and shoulders.
- Lightweight profile: The fabric selection ensures that the addition of the shade does not add noticeable weight to the helmet, maintaining wearer comfort throughout the day.
Design & Performance
This neck shade is manufactured from 100% Polyester Mesh, a material chosen for its exceptional durability and ventilation properties. The mesh allows air to circulate freely, which is critical when working in high temperatures or during physically demanding activities. The fabric is resilient enough to withstand the daily rigours of a construction site while remaining soft enough to avoid skin irritation. By focusing on a lightweight, breathable design, this garment helps regulate body temperature while providing essential shade.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
To enhance your corporate identity on-site, the HA17 can be customised with your company branding. Embroidery provides a professional and permanent finish, ideally suited for adding company names or employee initials to the elasticated section. Alternatively, print is an excellent choice for bold, high-impact logos that need to be clearly visible from a distance. Our experienced in-house team in Telford, who have been perfecting their craft since 1976, manages all customisation to ensure a superior finish that reflects your brand's standards.
Use Cases
This accessory is primarily designed for construction workers, railway engineers, and road maintenance crews who are required to wear safety helmets in exposed outdoor settings. It is also highly beneficial for surveyors and site managers who spend significant time navigating large, sun-exposed projects where overhead protection is mandatory.

Practical Advice
When fitting the neck shade, ensure the elasticated band is seated firmly around the base of the helmet shell, just above the brim. This will ensure the fabric hangs correctly and provides maximum coverage. It is advisable to check that the shade does not interfere with the helmet's harness or any mounted accessories such as ear defenders or lamps.
Caring for your product
To maintain the high-visibility performance and structural integrity of the mesh, we recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C using a mild process. Washing at higher temperatures can damage the polyester fibres and lead to a loss of colour vibrancy, which is essential for safety.
Bleaching should be avoided as it will strip the fluorescent pigments from the fabric, making the item non-compliant with safety visibility requirements. Similarly, do not tumble dry this product; high heat can cause the elastic to perish and the mesh to shrink. We recommend line drying to preserve the garment's shape.
Do not iron this item, as the heat from the iron can melt the synthetic polyester fibres. Dry cleaning is also not recommended, as the chemical solvents can degrade the fabric's protective qualities. Finally, please be aware that this garment has a maximum service life of 25 washes, after which the visibility properties may be reduced, and the item should be replaced for safety reasons.
