Product Overview

The FR Leather Welding Boot Cover is a specialised protective accessory engineered for professionals working in high-heat industrial environments. Constructed from premium split cowhide leather, these covers act as a sacrificial barrier, protecting both the wearer and their primary footwear from the damaging effects of sparks, slag, and molten spatter. By extending protection from the foot up to the lower leg, these covers ensure that hazardous debris is deflected away, maintaining the integrity of your workwear and enhancing site safety.

Key Features

  • Premium Split Cowhide Leather: The use of high-grade leather provides exceptional durability and natural resistance to abrasions, ensuring the covers survive the rigours of heavy-duty fabrication work.

  • Enhanced Thermal Protection: Naturally flame-resistant, the leather construction prevents ignition and provides a critical thermal buffer against heat transfer.

  • Certified Safety Standards: These covers are tested to EN ISO 11611 Class 2 (A1), confirming their suitability for high-risk welding tasks where significant levels of spatter and radiant heat are present.

  • Secure Fit and Coverage: Designed to sit comfortably over standard work boots, the height of the covers ensures the vulnerable gap between the boot and the trouser hem is fully shielded.

Design & Performance

Performance in a welding bay requires materials that can withstand extreme conditions without failing. These boot covers are manufactured from leather with a substantial thickness, providing a dense physical shield that sparks simply bounce off. Unlike synthetic alternatives, leather does not melt, drip, or shrink when exposed to intense heat, making it the gold standard for welding protection.

The design focuses on longevity in the toughest environments. The tan split leather is chosen for its high tensile strength and flexibility, allowing the wearer to move freely without the covers feeling restrictive or cumbersome. Every stitch is placed to ensure the covers remain functional through repeated exposure to thermal stress.

Why No Customisation?

As this product is classified as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and is certified to specific safety standards (EN ISO 11611), we do not offer customisation services such as embroidery or printing. Any modification to the leather surface or the addition of non-certified materials could compromise the flame-resistant properties and invalidate the safety certification. When it comes to heat protection, we prioritise your safety over branding.

Use Cases

These covers are essential for welders, metal fabricators, and grinders working in shipyards, automotive plants, or structural steel workshops. They are particularly useful for those performing overhead welding or heavy grinding where the volume of sparks is significantly increased.

Practical Advice

For maximum protection, ensure that your trousers are worn over the top of the boot covers where possible, or ensure the covers fit snugly against the leg. This prevents sparks from falling down inside the cover. When selecting footwear to go underneath, ensure your boots are also rated for the environment to provide a comprehensive safety system.

Caring for your product

To maintain the protective integrity of the leather, it is vital that you do not wash these boot covers. Submerging them in water or using domestic detergents will strip the natural oils from the leather, causing it to become dry, brittle, and prone to cracking. This would significantly reduce the flame-resistant performance of the material.

If the covers become dusty, simply wipe them down with a dry, stiff brush. For heavier soiling, a slightly damp cloth may be used, but the leather must be allowed to dry naturally away from direct heat sources like radiators. Never use bleach or chemical solvents, as these will permanently damage the leather fibres and compromise your safety.
