Product Overview
The Portwest Bump Cap offers a sophisticated solution for professionals who require head protection without the bulk of a traditional hard hat. Designed with a classic baseball cap aesthetic, this lightweight headgear provides essential protection against bumps and scrapes in environments where falling objects are not a primary risk. Its black cotton finish and metallic ring holes ensure a professional appearance that integrates seamlessly into a standard work uniform while maintaining a high standard of safety.
Key Features
Ventilation Ports: These integrated ports facilitate maximum breathability, ensuring the wearer remains comfortable and cool during extended shifts in warm environments.
7cm Long Peak: The extended peak provides enhanced eye protection against glare and debris, particularly beneficial for outdoor work or bright indoor settings.
Hook and Loop Adjustment: This allows for a precise and secure fit, accommodating various head sizes with ease and preventing the cap from shifting during movement.
Metallic Ring Holes: These reinforce the classic baseball cap aesthetic, providing a professional look that doesn't compromise on its protective function.
Design & Performance
Engineered for durability and comfort, the cap features a robust ABS shell that acts as a protective barrier against static objects. Inside, EVA foam provides a cushioned layer that absorbs minor impacts, reducing the risk of injury. The outer shell is crafted from cotton, offering the familiar feel of a standard cap while being resilient enough for daily industrial use. Certified to EN 812 standards, this bump cap is specifically designed to protect the wearer from the effects of striking their head against hard, stationary objects with sufficient severity to cause laceration or other superficial injuries.
Customisation: Print & Embroidery
This bump cap is an excellent candidate for both print and embroidery, allowing you to align your safety equipment with your brand identity. For a superior, long-lasting finish, we recommend embroidery for company logos and staff names; it provides a textured, professional appearance that withstands the rigours of the workplace. Alternatively, print is an ideal choice for larger, more vibrant designs that need to stand out. Our in-house team in Telford, who have been perfecting garment customisation since 1976, manages the entire process to ensure your branding is applied with precision.
Use Cases
This product is ideally suited for tradespeople working in confined spaces or areas with low ceilings. It is a popular choice for plumbers, electricians, and mechanics who frequently navigate tight spots. It is also highly effective for warehouse staff and those in the construction industry working in areas where standard hard hats are not a mandatory requirement but head protection remains a prudent choice.

Practical Advice
To ensure the best protection, use the hook and loop strap to achieve a snug fit that prevents the cap from tilting. While the 7cm peak offers excellent protection from glare, ensure it does not obstruct your upward field of vision when working in environments with overhead hazards. This cap is designed to be worn as a standalone item and should not be used as a replacement for an industrial safety helmet where one is legally required.
Caring for your product
To maintain the structural integrity of the internal ABS shell and the appearance of the cotton outer, regular maintenance is essential. Neglecting to clean the cap can lead to the build-up of salts and oils which may eventually degrade the fabric and padding.
We recommend wiping the internal shell with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach, as these can weaken the plastic components and cause the black fabric to fade, compromising the professional appearance of your custom branding.
Allow the cap to air dry naturally. Subjecting the cap to high heat in a tumble dryer may warp the protective shell or cause the cotton to shrink, resulting in an uncomfortable or unsafe fit.
