Product Overview

The Portwest Bayonet Fit Test Adapter Kit is a precision-engineered diagnostic tool designed to facilitate rigorous quantitative fit testing for respiratory protection equipment. Manufactured in Italy, this kit serves as the essential link between a Portwest bayonet-style respirator and particle counting devices, such as the Portacount system. By enabling an objective assessment of the mask's seal against an individual wearer's face, it ensures that your workforce is genuinely protected against hazardous particulates rather than merely appearing to be. It is a vital component for any health and safety professional tasked with maintaining compliance and ensuring the highest standards of respiratory safety.

Key Features
  • Universal Portwest Compatibility: Designed specifically to integrate with all Portwest bayonet cartridge half masks and full face masks, providing a versatile solution for diverse respiratory fleets.
  • Direct Breathing Zone Sampling: The kit includes an adapter fitted with a dedicated sample tube that passes directly through the inhalation valve, ensuring the air sampled is representative of what the user is actually breathing.
  • Quantitative Accuracy: By allowing for particle counting procedures, this kit removes the subjectivity of qualitative 'taste' tests, providing hard data on mask performance and fit.
  • Straightforward Installation: The adapter is designed to be positioned easily between the respirator facepiece and a P3 filter, allowing for rapid setup during busy testing schedules.

Design & Performance

Constructed as a lightweight but robust component, the P999 adapter is built to withstand the repetitive nature of fit testing environments. The mechanical bayonet connection ensures a secure, airtight interface, which is critical for maintaining the integrity of the test results. The inclusion of the small sample tube is a deliberate design choice to ensure that the air being monitored is drawn from the breathing zone within the mask, rather than the ambient air outside the seal. This technical precision is what differentiates a standard check from a professional quantitative fit test.

Why No Customisation?

The Bayonet Fit Test Adapter Kit is a precision safety instrument and, as such, is not eligible for customisation. Any modification to the physical structure of the adapter—such as embroidery or printing—could compromise the airtight seal required for accurate testing. To ensure the continued validity of your health and safety assessments and the safety of the end-user, this product is supplied exclusively in its original, factory-calibrated form.

Use Cases

This kit is indispensable for Health and Safety managers and designated fit testers working across high-risk industries. It is particularly relevant for those in construction, chemical handling, welding, and any environment where P3-level respiratory protection is mandatory. Whether you are performing initial face-fit testing for new starters or conducting annual re-tests, this adapter ensures your Portwest equipment is performing to its technical specifications.

Practical Advice

Please note that this fit test adapter must only be used in conjunction with P3 filters. Before commencing a test, ensure that the respirator facepiece is clean and that the inhalation valves are in good working order. We recommend verifying the compatibility of your specific Portwest mask model before purchase to ensure a seamless testing process.

Caring for your product

To maintain the performance and accuracy of your fit test adapter, it is essential to handle the sample tube with care. Avoid kinking or sharply bending the tubing, as any restriction in airflow can lead to erroneous readings during the particle counting process. After use, the adapter should be stored in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and contaminants.

We recommend a gentle cleaning of the external surfaces with a damp cloth if necessary, but ensure that no moisture or debris enters the sample tube. Proper maintenance of this kit ensures that it remains a reliable tool for your safety audits for years to come.
