Product Overview

The Nimbus Sonoma twill unisex overshirt is a sophisticated reimagining of vintage workwear, designed to bridge the gap between a traditional shirt and a light jacket. Constructed from a substantial 100% cotton twill, this garment offers a relaxed fit that provides comfort without sacrificing a sharp, professional silhouette. The garment-washed finish ensures that despite its sturdy construction, the fabric possesses a soft, broken-in feel from the first wear. It is an ideal choice for businesses seeking a modern, versatile uniform that performs across various professional environments.

Key Features
  • Heavyweight Cotton Twill: The 100% cotton fabric provides a durable, thick layer that stands up to daily wear while remaining breathable and natural against the skin.
  • Relaxed Fit Design: Allows for easy movement and layering, ensuring staff remain comfortable throughout a long shift.
  • Integrated Open Side Pockets: Provides practical storage for essential items without the bulk of traditional cargo pockets, maintaining a streamlined look.
  • Tone-in-Tone Details: The stitching and buttons are colour-matched to the fabric, resulting in a cohesive and understated aesthetic that places the focus on your branding.
  • Adjustable Buttoned Cuffs: Features a classic closure that allows the sleeves to be secured or rolled up depending on the task at hand.

Design & Performance

Performance in a professional garment is as much about the fabric’s handle as it is about its durability. The Sonoma overshirt is crafted from a heavyweight twill weave, providing the structural integrity required for a demanding workday. Because it is garment-washed, the internal fibres have been pre-relaxed, meaning the overshirt avoids the rigid, abrasive texture often associated with heavy cotton fabrics. The result is a garment that feels premium and soft to the touch while retaining the rugged resilience of classic utility wear.

The design follows a minimalist philosophy. By utilising tone-in-tone stitching and buttons, Nimbus has created a clean canvas that works exceptionally well for corporate branding. The classic collar and button-down front ensure it remains appropriate for customer-facing roles where a standard sweatshirt or fleece might appear too casual.

Customisation: Print & Embroidery

This heavyweight overshirt is an excellent candidate for both print and embroidery, and choosing between them depends on your specific branding requirements. The dense twill weave provides a stable foundation for high-stitch-count embroidery, which we recommend for a traditional, executive appearance on the chest or collar. Embroidery is particularly effective for logos and individual staff names, offering a tactile and long-lasting finish.

For more prominent branding, such as large-scale designs on the back, our printing services are an ideal solution. The smooth surface of the cotton twill allows for crisp, vibrant print application. Our in-house team in Telford, which has been refining these processes since 1976, will ensure your branding is applied with technical precision to complement the premium nature of the Nimbus brand.

Use Cases

The Sonoma overshirt is a versatile addition to any professional wardrobe. It is particularly well-suited for hospitality staff in modern bistros or bars, where a 'smart-casual' aesthetic is required. It also serves as a superior layering piece for site managers or creative professionals who need to transition from a workshop or office environment to client meetings without changing their attire. Given its unisex design and broad size range from XS to 3XL, it is a practical choice for outfitting a diverse team with a unified look.

Practical Advice

As this overshirt features a relaxed fit, it is designed to be worn over other garments. If you intend to wear it as a standalone shirt, you may wish to consider the smaller end of your usual size range. However, for use as a traditional overshirt over a t-shirt or light knitwear, sticking to your standard size will provide the intended silhouette. For the most accurate fit, we recommend consulting the specific chest measurements provided in our size guide.

Caring for your product

To ensure your overshirt maintains its shape and the integrity of the garment-washed cotton, we recommend a domestic wash at a maximum temperature of 40°C using a normal process. Exceeding this temperature can lead to unnecessary fibre stress and may affect the longevity of any applied branding.

You should avoid the use of bleach, as harsh chemical agents will strip the colour from the cotton twill and degrade the fabric structure. Similarly, this garment should not be tumble dried. Allowing the overshirt to air dry naturally prevents the shrinkage that can occur with natural cotton fibres when exposed to high heat.

When ironing, use a maximum sole-plate temperature of 110°C and avoid using steam. High-temperature steam can occasionally cause ‘shining’ on twill fabrics or damage printed logos. Finally, do not dry clean this garment, as the industrial solvents used can be too aggressive for the garment-washed finish and custom branding.
