MyWorkwear has today announced its pledge to help fight dementia by making Race Against Dementia their nominated charity.

MyWorkwear has supported businesses across the UK with their workwear and uniforms for nearly 50 years. During those years, it has helped numerous local and national charities. However, following the passing of founder Mike Worthington to dementia with Lewy Bodies last year, we nominated a dementia charity.

We work closely with the manufacturing, engineering and automotive industry. We also sponsor the University of Wolverhampton Racing team. So when introduced to RAD by Kiltads Motorsport Marketing, we felt a strong synergy.

James Worthington, MD of MyWorkwear, said: “With the first anniversary of my father’s death falling during Dementia Action Week this week, we felt this was an ideal time to announce our intentions to support RAD. Having grown from my father’s small manufacturing company established in 1976, it’s a humbling experience to now support this charity in the quest to find a cure for the disease that took him away. We aspire to fund research that could one day spare other families the heartbreak of witnessing their loved ones lose their sense of reality and dignity”.

Race Against Dementia

Race Against Dementia (RAD) was founded by three-time Formula 1® world champion Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, , and calls on us all to help combat the crisis of our generation.

Over 50 million people worldwide currently live with dementia, and a new diagnosis occurs every three seconds. Race Against Dementia raises and allocates funds for research into preventing or curing dementia. Currently, it supports eleven post-doctoral early-career dementia researchers through the RAD Fellowship Programme. RAD promotes collaboration with forward-thinking Formula One teams and other innovative organisations to apply the dynamic attitude, dedication, and agility of Grand Prix teamwork to drive progress in dementia research.

Bridget Barker, CEO of Race Against Dementia, expressed her excitement in response to this announcement. She said; “MyWorkwear’s support in our mission to discover a prevention or cure for this devastating disease thrills us. Businesses like MyWorkwear have enabled RAD to allocate an additional £500,000 to dementia research this year”.
