How Can Managers Support Employee Wellbeing With Branded Workwear?
As business leaders, owners and managers, employee wellbeing is at the forefront when it comes to reducing turnover and increasing the productivity and therefore success of your staff.
The definition of wellbeing, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is ‘the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy’.
It is also defined by the Collin Dictionary as ‘the condition of being contented, healthy or successful.’
Employee wellbeing can be classed as wellbeing that is directly linked to the workplace.
In modern day society we spend the majority of our lives at work.
According to research completed by Andrew Naber ‘07, Gettysburg college, the average person will spend 90,000 hours at work across their lifetime.
So making sure that your team is comfortable, healthy and happy at work is imperative to a long and successful career in your business and ultimately, when your staff are successful so is your company.
This blog is going to guide you through ways in which as a manager you can support your employees wellbeing with branded workwear.
Now, you might be thinking that this is a stretch on our behalf.
But, after we have shared with you the benefits that a branded uniform can bring to your team’s wellbeing, you will too believe that personalised workwear can really make a positive difference to your team.
We’ll start by taking a look at what employee wellbeing is, why it is more important than ever, what steps you can take as a manager to improve your team’s wellbeing, how branded workwear connects to this topic and offer your some inspiration for your next workwear purchase.
Let’s get started.
What is employee wellbeing?
As previously mentioned, the definition of well-being is the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy.
When thought about in application to businesses and their staff, employee wellbeing relates to how your employees feel at work.
Think about whether they are comfortable, healthy and happy when at work?
This question is relevant for all workers, no matter if they work remotely, are office-based or work out on sites, workplace wellbeing is imperative to ensuring that every member of your staff is providing high-quality and valuable work to your business.
Diving into this thought further, it’s important to look at how well-being is broken down by the professionals.
6 Pillars of employee wellbeing
Employee wellbeing can be broken down into 6 or 7 key pillars.
Information sourced from CIPD.
1. Health
Health in the workplace is paramount. Whether it’s prevention of spreading viruses in the office, protecting against unnecessary injuries out on site or making sure your team are taking breaks when working from home, the health of your team is essential to their wellbeing. If your staff are feeling unwell, it will encourage them to take time off work, which can halt productivity, especially when working with a smaller team, even one absence can completely change the layout of the day.
2. Good Work
Good work translates to ensuring that your team has a good environment to work in. This consists of, a good work space, ie. a desk, chair and monitor that is catered to the individuals needs, good management, ie. a reliable and trustworthy line of management that support the team in both their work and wellbeing and good work demands, ie. job roles, work loads, working hours are all managed and suitable to a healthy work-life balance for the individual.
3. Values
Your business needs to ensure that it has the right values and principles to ensure your staff are looked after, e.g. ethical standards, cultural engagement, community investment, training for employees.
4. Social
Ensuring your team has an open line of communication not only with managers and leadership staff, but also with one another is imperative to their well-being. Connection, which is one of the main dimensions of personal well-being also, allows individuals to build positive relationships with one another and also build trust with managers and senior members of staff that can ensure that their employee’s voices are heard and feel valued.
5. Personal growth
Personal growth not only relates to career growth, but also emotional and creative growth. Whilst career growth is important to consider, where this falls on the list of priorities truly depends on the individual member of your team. However, emotional growth can allow your team members to adopt positive relationships with both their colleagues and your customers, it will help them develop their resilience and become open when discussing their worries about work with their line managers. Creating a safe environment for your team to communicate with their managers, free of judgement could be the difference between you keeping and losing an integral member of your team.
6. Good lifestyle choices
Whilst this cannot necessarily be controlled at work, as employers you can certainly encourage your team to make good lifestyle choices both in and out of work. This includes physical activity, like walking on lunch breaks or cycling to work and healthy eating, this can be encouraged by offering free fruit in the canteen.
The seventh point relates to financial security, ensuring that your employees have a fair wage and are being paid regularly and on time.
Why is employee wellbeing more important than ever before?
You might be thinking, but why is this important now?
Here at MyWorkwear, we recently conducted a study, surveying 114 different businesses spread across numerous industries about the 2025 rises in employers national insurance contributions and the rise in minimum wage in the UK.
The results we found were staggering.
We found that:
- 44% of businesses have concerns about their survival over the next 5 years.
- 72% of businesses are actively concerned about the increasing costs.
Be sure to download the full MyWorkwear Economic Report 2025 here.
Whilst these findings may not directly relate to employees, it’s clear to see that it’s more essential than ever for you to retain good quality staff members.
Recruiting can be a very expensive process and the cost of training new team members can cost in the tens of thousands. These costs can be avoided by prioritising employee wellbeing.
However, we also found that 46% of the businesses confirmed that their workwear will not be impacted by their cost cutting exercises and only 12% are reducing the quality of their workwear.
So it’s important to utilise aspects of your business that you may not normally think of to help improve your team’s wellbeing at work.
What steps can you take to improve your employees’ wellbeing?
Now it’s time to look at a couple of suggestions on what we recommend implementing into your business where possible to help improve your employee’s wellbeing.
Step One – Foster a positive working environment
Encouraging a positive working environment can look different depending on your business. For some it may look like adding in volunteering activities, where staff can take some time out of the office where they can build relationships with one another and feel a mutual sense of achievement.
Step Two – Encourage work-life balance
Having a good work-life balance is essential in ensuring your employees are happy and healthy for longer. You can encourage a better balance by ensuring your staff are taking breaks and beginning and ending their shifts on time. You can offer flexible working arrangements to staff who have the ability to work from home or promote healthy boundaries, like not working outside of their contracting work hours. This ensures that your employees have time for their personal lives and they have time to re-energise to keep being productive at work.
Step Three – Embrace Open Communication
By creating an environment where employees can come to you as managers or leaders of the business, you will encourage an open line of communication. An important factor of feeling appreciated at work is feeling heard. If your employees can be honest about how they are feeling at work and offer some constructive feedback and then potentially implement their feedback where relevant, it will only lead to your employees feeling heard and appreciated.
Step Four – Support Both Mental & Physical Health
To ensure that your employees are staying healthy, it’s important to support both their mental and physical health equally. You can support mental health by offering financial support to your employees when using mental health services, you can nominate a couple of your staff members to have mental health first aid training and encourage them to become support staff for the rest of your team. In terms of physical health, you can encourage your team to bike to work or go out on a walk for lunch. You can invest in standing desks, so that your employees can stretch their legs without taking time away from their desk or you can utilise employee discounts with local gyms, to encourage your staff to become members.
Step Five – Encourage Connection
Connection is imperative when it comes to the overall wellness of your staff and encouraging them to build professional relationships with one another will only help them to feel more safe and comfortable at work. Creating a break-out area, where your team can relax on their breaks with one another, or start getting them involved in team building exercises can all add to their connections. Creating a sense of unity and belonging will only ensure that your team wants to succeed in your business for as long as possible.
This is where your personalised workwear comes in…
The Connection Between Branded Workwear & Employee Wellbeing
As leading suppliers of personalised garments, we’re no strangers to the power of branded workwear.
We have seen the benefits of custom workwear elevate businesses across a wide variety of industries for nearly 50 years.
But how does this link with employee well-being?
- Creates a sense of unity
Dressing your team in workwear that is personalised with your brand can reiterate the feeling of togetherness and unity between your staff. It can remind them of their common goal, which can certainly get lost in the midst of multiple departments. If a new team member joins the company, gifting them with a fully branded uniform will make them feel more a part of the team. This sense of shared identity can be a real game changer for your business. The perfect opportunity to embrace team unity is at an event, dress your team in bright t-shirts like the Pro RTX Pro T-Shirt.
- Reduction of hierarchical barriers
Whilst ensuring there is a managerial structure in your business is important, creating barriers between staff can dramatically reduce the approachability of senior staff and lead to employees feeling uncomfortable in their workplace. A company-wide workwear will help to keep each member of your team looking professional, but it will also make senior management more approachable. Which is imperative if your staff are having issues that negatively impact their wellbeing. If professionalism is imperative for your team, we love the Regatta Flux Softshell Bodywarmer.
- Reduces decision-making
As integral members of your team, it’s important that your staff are on their A game as much as possible. By taking away the task of deciding what to wear in the morning and replacing it with a go to uniform, your staff will no longer have to worry about what they can and can’t wear to work. You are enforcing a dress code without having to be strict and potentially upsetting any members of your team. An absolute staple for your new workwear that we widely recommend is the Pro RTX Pique Polo Shirt, our team wears these daily and they make a fantastic base to any workwear ensemble.
- Enhances comfort & safety
Choosing workwear that is suited to your team can actually make their job more comfortable, which is one of the key features of overall wellbeing. Ensuring your workwear is the right fabric (moisture wicking in warm weather, like the Henbury CoolPlus Wicking Pique Polo Shirt or insulating throughout the winter, just like the Regatta Dover Insulated Jacket) and the right fit (for example, you may need to dress the women on your team in a female fit, which tends to be shorter in the torso and fitted around the waist, like the Nimbus Womens Harvard V-Neck Stretch Deluxe Polo) can make a huge difference to your teams level of comfort and therefore performance.
