Getting ready for winter

Working through the winter chill whilst outdoors can be tough. But fear not, MyWorkwear has your back when it comes to winter workwear. Whether you face extreme cold or just need reliable gear for the season, we’ve got you covered.

Having the right workwear in winter is often tricky, but we’re here to break it down, by looking into the two levels of winter workwear…

Level 1 zero to five degrees.

Dressing to work at this temperature is actually trickier than it sounds. If your job involves lots of movement or manual labour at this temperature your body will produce enough heat. This means don’t need to wear thick winter coats. However this will cause you to sweat and the trick here is to get that moisture away from your body. This will let your body regulate your temperature more easily. The best way to do this is with a base layer to help drag moisture away from your body. On top of this you then need a mid or insulating layer to help trap warm air against the body. This needs to be thick enough to trap as much warm air as possible however thin enough so that it doesn’t restrict your movement. A zip hoodie works perfectly for this. In terms of coat, trousers and footwear at this temperature, anything can work depending on the task at hand.  One necessity you’ll need however is the merino wool sock. These will keep your feet from becoming ice blocks, as they’re made for such conditions.

Level 2 Zero to minus five.

The key here is base layers and to stay away from anything cotton against the skin. Cotton holds moisture against the skin as opposed to a base layer that will drag moisture away from your body. So a full base layer of trousers and top are vital. At these temperatures you also need to pay more attention to your mid layers and ensure they are as efficient at trapping as much air as possible against the skin. The body loses most heat through its head so a warm hat is an absolute must. Given the reliance on touch screens in so many areas of worklife now, a glove that allows you to use a touch screen whilst keeping your fingers protected is vital. Then to go over the top a down or down feel jacket like this will make sure you can keep working no matter what the weather throws at you.
