As we all start to layer up again for winter, learning to care for your winter workwear will ensure your team will stay looking smart and warm through the whole season.

At MyWorkwear, we have a huge range of different knitwear available in a rainbow of colours to meet your requirements and your brand. But once you’ve chosen whats right for you and your team, how do you take care of your winter workwear?

Washing

Knitwear can be delicate and it’s sometimes easy for the fabric to get caught on something and unravel. It is therefore important to give your knitwear garments a little extra care to get the most of your extra warm layer.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t wash it in the machine. Just ensure you read the garment care label prior to washing to ensure you are washing at the correct temperature. There’s also other things you can do to preserve the look of your knitwear. Choosing the delicate setting on your machine and the shortest spin cycle time available is also important.  Plus you should separate your knitwear from heavier, harsh fabrics to avoid damage and turn your garment inside out before washing to prevent piling.

Alternatively, handwashing your knitwear can help as this method is more gentle on the fibres. Just use lukewarm water and a small amount of detergent and gently wash the garment. Rinse with cold water but do not ring.

And whatever method you use to wash, drying is also key. Smooth the garment into shape on a flat surface away from sunlight or radiators and leave to dry naturally.

Storing

When a jumper or cardigan is hung up on a hanger, the weight causes them to stretch and become misshapen. To lengthen the lifespan of your winter workwear wardrobe it is important to ensure you are storing them correctly. Folding or rolling is the way to go for knitwear. And if they’re being stored for a longer period, ensure they are completely dry before folding and  try to store then in a cool, dry and dark space.

Further tips

Reducing the number of times  you need to clean your knitwear will reduce the wear and tear on the garments. Regularly airing your knits can help with this, plus it will also lessen your impact on the environment. You can also rotate how you wear your workwear. By not wearing the same jumper every day, you will give the fabric time to relax back into shape after wear and reduce the likelihood of ‘pilling’ which can sometimes occur with regular wear. This is a natural process that occurs due to rubbing during wear but  is perfectly normal and can be easily removed either by hand or with a pilling comb. In fact, regular care like this will ensure your winter workwear will look fresher for longer and your team will stay looking smart and warm throughout the winter.
