At MyWorkwear, we have always believed in making a difference in people’s lives. When our founder, Mike Worthington who passed away in 2021 due to Lewy body dementia, was diagnosed with the disease, it became our mission to support organizations fighting against dementia. One such organisation that holds a special place in our hearts is Race Against Dementia (RAD). In line with our commitment, we created the RADical Rogues Rally, a fundraising event aimed at supporting RAD’s vital work. In this blog post, we share the journey of the rally and highlight the incredible individuals who joined us in this endeavour.
The RADical Rogues Rally
From May 19th to May 20th, a convoy of supercars, sports cars, and classic cars, led by the fearless RADical Rogues, embarked on a remarkable journey through the enchanting landscapes of Wales. Covering over 500 miles, the rally traversed four breathtaking routes: the awe-inspiring Dragons Spine, the mesmerizing Snowdon to Anglesey, the captivating Anglesey itself, and the awe-inspiring Brecon Beacons to South West Coast. However, the RADical Rogues Rally was not just about an exhilarating adventure; it was a resounding testament to unity and unwavering determination in the relentless race against dementia.
As of the 31st of May 2023, the amazing Rallly Rogues accomplished something truly outstanding. With an initial target of £2,000, they managed to raise an impressive £4,191. This not only represents a financial triumph but also signifies the overwhelming support they received from generous contributors. The amount raised is a testament to the unwavering determination of the RADical Rogues and the compassion of those who rallied behind them.
The RADical Rogues Rally exemplified the power of collaboration, attracting support from a multitude of dedicated Race Against Dementia advocates and other like-minded individuals. John Race, a cherished customer and Paint Facility & Technical Lead at Charge Cars, wholeheartedly embraced the challenge as James’s trusted co-driver. John’s personal connection to dementia, with his father courageously battling Early Stage Dementia, further fueled his unwavering resolve to participate. Joined by other remarkable MyWorkwear customers, including Phil Stanley, the visionary Owner of TWP Group, Steve Wood, the indomitable Castings Operations Director at Bridge Aluminium Ltd, Simon Hanson, the resilient MD of HCM Engineering who tragically lost his father to dementia, and Tony Sartorius, the dynamic MD of Alucast, this exceptional team united in their shared goal of making an enduring impact.
A Personal Mission
For our Managing Director, James Worthington, the fight against dementia is deeply personal.After losing his father to dementia, he made a solemn pledge to contribute to the cause. James’s determination to raise awareness and funds for Race Against Dementia led to the creation of the RADical Rogues Rally. He believes that this event will serve as a strong starting point for their fundraising efforts, surpassing the achievements of previous years and growing even further in the future.
Race against dementia
Race Against Dementia was born out of the personal journey of Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, a legendary three-time Formula 1 world champion, who responded to his wife Helen’s heart-wrenching dementia diagnosis. With over 50 million individuals worldwide grappling with dementia and a new diagnosis occurring every three seconds, the work of RAD is undeniably vital. By wholeheartedly supporting RAD, we actively contribute to funding groundbreaking research that holds the key to a cure for this insidious disease.
Through initiatives like the RADical Rogues Rally, MyWorkwear and its exceptional team of individuals are steadfast in their commitment to making a lasting impact. Together, we strive to create a world where dementia is conquered, and where families no longer bear the burden of this insidious condition. With every step taken, and every mile conquered, we raise awareness, support vital research, and kindle hope in the hearts of millions affected by dementia.
