Our MD is using his time in lockdown to help Mental Health…
At MyWorkwear, we pride ourselves on being steadfast supporters of the UK manufacturing industry. Over the years, we have actively participated in various initiatives to promote and strengthen this vital sector. 2020, however, brought unique challenges and opportunities, primarily due to COVID-19. It’s during these trying times that we have recognised the importance of extending our support beyond manufacturing.
Focusing on Mental Health
Our Managing Director, James Worthington, has gone above and beyond to make a positive impact during the lockdown. He chose to utilise his allowed exercise time by raising money for a charitable cause. James embarked on a remarkable challenge, aiming to run the equivalent of almost four marathons over a month.
Through his dedicated efforts and the generous support of donors, he raised close to £300. The motivation behind his initiative was to contribute to the cause of mental health support, an issue that has become increasingly critical during these uncertain times.
James is no stranger to fundraising; he had previously raised almost £2,000 by completing a grueling off-road ultra marathon. Yet, when the COVID-19 crisis began taking its toll on charities, he felt compelled to take to his running shoes once more.
MIND
In May 2020, MIND, a prominent mental health charity, revealed that nearly a quarter of people were unable to access the mental health services they needed. This startling statistic highlighted the urgency of providing greater support for mental health.
Charities like MIND have been facing mounting pressure during the pandemic. The crisis has had a profound impact on people’s lives, resulting in an increased need for mental health support. On the other hand, many fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled, leaving these organizations struggling to maintain their usual income.
When asked about the challenge, James expressed, “When I heard that this fantastic charity was struggling with fundraising, I knew I needed to do something to help. As a sufferer of mild anxiety & OCD myself, I’m very aware of mental health issues, and sadly more people than ever are now battling with their mental health as a direct result of the COVID-19 crisis. I fear that this virus will be here for some time to come, and MIND will need all the donations they can get to help people who are suffering the most in the UK.”
He continued, “It is more important than ever that we take steps to look after ourselves and our wellbeing, and keeping active is a big part of this for so many people. Although this has been a challenge to complete alongside managing my business under the new coronavirus guidelines, it has also allowed me to get outside and exercise, which I find invaluable.”
Exceeding Expectations
We’re thrilled to share that James surpassed his fundraising targets, running nearly 110 miles in June and raising almost £750 for MIND. This accomplishment showcases the incredible power of collective support, even during challenging times.
As we reflect on this journey, we remain committed to our support for the UK manufacturing industry and for broader causes that impact our community and society at large. We invite you to explore our website, MyWorkwear, to learn more about our offerings and initiatives. Together, we can make a difference and face the challenges of today with resilience and unity.
